Guns And Laces

Halfway Through

Chapter Twenty-Two

"I will burn you, inch by inch, if you so much as think of harming her. I am restrained only as long as she's breathing. After her, I don't guarantee you shit."

-Angelo

“Have you ever thought about marriage, Angelo?” Anna asked and looked up at me.

We had come out to sit on the balcony attached to my room. She had rested her head on my lap as soon as we settled on the makeshift couch outside.

I looked down at her in thought, “Marriage?” I whispered and she nodded her head. “Not in a long time, no. But if you’re the one walking down that aisle for me then I’d consider it.” I smirked at her and began to work my fingers in her hair.

A blush crept up her cheeks and I leaned down to place a kiss on them.

“Why do you ask?” I questioned and she only shrugged in response. “Tell me, would you do that?” I ask in all seriousness.

Her fingers that were toying with the buttons of my shirt stopped momentarily and she lifted her lashes up to look at me, “I’d only and happily walk down that aisle for you.”

My lips curled in a small smile upon hearing her words, “Good.”

She abruptly sat up and straddled my lap, “So will you marry me?”

While her question left me speechless, the spark in her eyes left me breathless.

I opened my mouth to answer but she placed her hand over it, “You have two options -,” She began to speak and I frowned. What did she mean I had two options? Only a fuckin’ fool would want options. “-yes, or yes please?” She finished and I chuckled.

I removed her hand and kissed her forehead, “Yes, please darling.”

A grin spread across her lips leaving me absolutely mesmerised. At this point, I was convinced that she was the most beautiful woman to exist and no one could convince me otherwise.

“You’re so beautiful, Anna.” I whispered and tucked her hair behind her ear.

Her smile slightly faded and a sadness clouded her eyes. I frowned and traced the outline of her lips, “Come on, smile for me.”

She obeyed half-heartedly and I grasped her chin with my fingers in concern, “What is it, tell me?”

She shook her head, “It’s nothing. I am just…overthinking.” She made an excuse.

“Either you tell me what’s bothering you or I will eat it out of you.” My response made her laugh and I couldn’t help but admire how the corners of her eyes crinkled ever so slightly.

However, she sobered quickly and I squeezed her waist urging her to say whatever that was bothering her. She let out a deep exhale and her hands went to rest on my shoulders.

“I have told you everything about myself, Angelo. About how I was just a mistake, how my so-called family disowned me, how I lived on the streets, how I was put into an orphanage, my studies, my struggles, even why I am on the run, every single thing.” I nodded as soon as she paused, not knowing where this was going.

As soon as I had come home a few hours ago, she cried hysterically and told me everything about her in a flow. I didn’t dare interrupt her because I needed her to let it all out and it also looked as if she wanted nothing more than to get rid of the overwhelming weight of those things that had pushed her down all her life.
