Halfway Through

Chapter Twenty-Three

"You'll be able to catch him over this beautiful, dead fuckin' body. But even then, he will be the one coming after you."

-Rheannon.

“Angelo, your phone has been ringing ever since you went into the shower.” I said walking over to him with his phone in my hands.

He was drying his hair with the towel when he looked up and his movements halted. His eyes roamed up and down my body and I realised that I was only walking around in my white ‘lace’ lingerie.

“Jesus! Woman, are you trying to kill me or something?” His hand wrapped around my waist and he pressed my body flush against himself.

“Angelo we have to leave in thirty m-” “I’ll take five.” He said cutting me off.

I mentally face palmed myself and sighed at him, “No, you will not. I am gonna go and change now.” I said wriggling out of his hold.

He gave me a disapproving look but before he could speak further his phone rang again. I handed the sleek black device to him and quickly disappeared inside the walk-in closet.

Angelo had made multiple calls last night to make all the necessary arrangements for our wedding. It was a simple court marriage. Both Angelo and I wanted to get married properly in Greece where his family could join us as well.

I ran my hand over the smooth silk fabric of my white wedding dress and a small smile tugged at my lips. Angelo had a friend in fashion industry who owed him a favour and designed this dress overnight. It was a plain tea length white silk dress that cinched at the waist and its skirt flared ever so slightly to the hem. The cowl neck of the dress was supported by thin double straps that were made of pearls. And the back dropped a little below the natural waistline - almost right above the curve of my hips.

I slipped it on and sprayed perfume before quickly grabbing my heels. I sat down on the ottoman to wear them but Angelo’s booming voice made me rush out of the closet in concern.

“What the fuck, Gus?! I swear on Eirene if this is a lie, I will kill you with my bare hands.” He threatened the person on the other end.

I was stood at the door not wanting to interrupt his conversation and noticed that he had already worn his pants and his hair was only slightly damp now. After a few seconds he spoke again, “I am waiting for your sorry ass to be here within the next thirty minutes, Gus.” This time he disconnected the call and threw his phone on the bed.

He ran a hand through his hair and turned around to find me standing outside the closet. He halted in his tracks as his eyes took me in and slowly trailed up from my feet to my face, stopping momentarily at my waist and the neckline of the dress.

I walked closer to him and stopped a few feet away, “Are you okay?” I asked.

He seemed to be in a daze and did not respond until I took one step forward and repeated my question.

“Fuck baby, are you trying to give me a heart attack before our wedding?” He asked coming back to his senses and my face flushed.

He covered the small distance between us and hooked his arms around my waist. I placed my hands on his bare chest and he started to pepper kisses on my face eliciting a giggle from me.
