Chapter Thirty-Two

"I will burn you, inch by inch, if you so much as think of harming her. I am restrained only as long as she's breathing. After her, I don't guarantee you shit."

“They are going to hang her.” Aegeus told.

All I saw after that was red and his words kept replaying in my head. I stormed towards the end of the hallway and stood in front of a door. I kicked it open with my foot and a strong stench of sweat mixed with blood welcomed me.

The room was semi dark but I could make out the figure sitting on the chair. She was restrained with ropes and her ankles were cuffed.

“I knew you’d take the bait.” She spoke as soon as I stepped inside and closed the door behind me.

Her voice was almost unrecognisable now. It was scratchy. The kind that made you want to pull their vocal cords apart piece by piece.

“I don’t like to repeat myself, you are already aware of that. So I am going to ask you once and if you choose to answer incorrectly, I will not hesitate to do more damage than has already been done.”

She chuckled, “You have always been a fool. I can’t believe I loved someone like you.”

“You never loved me and I am not here to discuss that.” I spoke with great restraint and walked closer to examine her face.

Her cheeks were now hollow and bruised. Her eyes had sunken and she had purple bags underneath them. There was dried blood on the side of her head from when I threw her against the wall.

I almost wished I felt pity for her. Almost.

I picked up a scalpel and brought it near her cheek. Her eyes widened in fear and I felt utterly satisfied looking at her petrified state.

I dug it in her cheek, the part which was not bruised, and she let out a small scream before dagging it down and drawing out blood.

“Where is she, Helena?” I asked quietly.

She opened her mouth to speak but I cut her off, “Think before you answer. Think hard. I will not hesitate to inflict these small injuries and I will gladly carve cuts throughout your body if I have to.”

She looked at me in a mixture of shock and anger, “I can’t believe you would stoop this low for her.” She spat.

I met her gaze and sighed, “I told you to think hard before you opened this mouth of yours.” I pulled the scalpel away and slashed it down the side of her neck. Deep enough to draw out blood but not enough to kill her.

She struggled against the ropes but I kicked the foot of the wooden chair causing it to tumble and fall. Her head hit the ground with a loud thud and she let out a cry of pain.

“Pl-please.” She begged.

I rounded the chair from the back and squatted down on the floor. She was staring at me with terror-filled eyes and I could see a sheen of sweat on her face now.

“Tell me if what you said to Aegeus is true? Because if you don’t I can do this all day and still not kill you.” I threatened and cleaned the blood off the scalpel with the collar of her shirt.
