"Search areas of land with lots of water, or maybe one next to a volcano. We're dealing with sirens and fire spirits here." Phil says too a group of people. Fury had wanted us both here, and we were tossing ideas back and forth."Don't forget freezing areas. Could be the frost giants." I say. "Or basically anywhere, because Fuller's organization is just humans." So basically the whole globe. Great. One of the technicians looks at Phil.
"So.... basically the entire world, sir?" He asks. Phil grimaces.
"Yes." Phil says with a grimace. "But search the extreme areas first. The volcanoes and the tundras." He says. The man nods and goes back to typing furiously. I sigh and look out the window, down at the city below. Kim had been here for a few days, and while the normality helped, something wasn't right. Both her and Loki were acting strangely. Well. More Loki than anything. He kept looking at her strangely and was being cold to her. I asked him about it, but he had brushed it off quickly.
"Hey." Phil had walked over to me. "We'll find them. Fury wouldn't have called us down here for nothing." He says, laying a comforting hand on my back.
"If it was so important, then why is he late?" I ask, raising an eyebrow. Phil glances around before replying with a small chuckle.
"He's always late."
"I'm never late." A voice says from behind us, and we turn to see Fury there. "I arrive precisely when I mean too." Did.... did he just quote.... nah. He stalks off towards his office, and I share a look with Phil before we both follow. "Sit." He commands after I shut the door behind us. We both sit in chairs slowly.
"You wanted to see us sir?" Phil asks, the oh-so-ever obedient agent. I roll my eyes but look at Fury anxiously. He nods.
"We have a mole." He says. I raise an eyebrow.
"And that involves us.....how?" I ask. Fury sighs, looking annoyed.
"And we believe that they are giving Fuller and his accomplices information. We also believe that the mole is the one who abducted them." He says. "Probably an agent, or at least someone who knows SHIELD and them very well."
"That's not very many people." I comment. He nods.
"We believe that they left the tower willingly. The mole probably told them that they needed help, and... they went with them."
"How does this help us at all?!" I exclaim. Fury glares at me.
"It means we've narrowed down suspects." He says. He gives me a look that says 'are-you-really-that-stupid'. I sink down in my seat and lay my head on my hand.
"Sorry. I'm stressed." I mutter.
"Like you wouldn't believe." Phil says. I glare at him. "What?"
"The reason," Fury says loudly, interrupting us, "is that we need you both to act like everything is normal. Like you aren't panicking," He looks pointedly at me, "and act as if we are only casually looking."
"Do you really think that the mole will believe that?" I ask skeptically. "Cause we've been searching frantically for days. And I've been panicking! I'm not just going to randomly stop!"
"Exactly." Says Fury. "Which would make the mole panic. They'll give themselves away." I sigh. It wasn't honestly that bad of an idea. "So you will both act calm to everyone. And I mean everyone."
"Yes sir." Fury nods at us, dismissing us.
Phil and I walk through the headquarters, not speaking in a tense silence. Neither of us really had anything to say, honestly. We got into Lola, Phil's prized, cherry red car. No matter how much I begged, driving it was out of the question.
"So how have you and your team been doing on your little 'adventures'?" I ask, breaking the quiet. He gives me a small smile, knowing that I'm purposefully avoiding the elephant in the room.... car.
"It's been good. We've had quite a few close calls, a few.... misunderstandings. but overall," He shrugs. "Not too bad."
"Okay, is it just me, or do you ship FitzSimmons?" I ask, making Phil laugh. "No! Seriously! Don't you think that they'd be perfect together?" I ask, looking at him. There is a moment before he nods. "I knew it!" I say excitedly.
"How do you feel about Skye?" He asks, out of the blue.
"Um... She's pretty great. Really good with computers." I manage to say, before asking, "Why?"
"There was an... incident." Phil says after a hesitation. "She put a mission at risk to protect her boyfriend." I make a face.
"So?" I ask. "She was protecting a friend. A loved one." I say."That shouldn't affect how you see her." I turn to look out at the park we were passing by.
"Okay, what about May?" Phil asks. "Cause you always act like you hate her."
"I don't... hate her, per say. I just... She isn't all that easy to like." Phil nods in understanding.
"True." He admits. "But you can trust her to do anything, and to be there when it counts." He says, pulling into the garage. "Liking her? That takes a while."
Loki's POV~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Phil and Sophie had been at SHIELD for a while now. This was my chance to speak to Kim. Something was wrong with her. The way she was acting.
And her mind. Before, it was an open book, like most Midguardians. But now, now it was shielded. Something that would take decades for a simple Midguardian to learn on their own. So what had happened since the last time I had seen her? She avoided everyone but Sophie, me overall. Now I was going to take my chance and talk.
I find her relaxing in a small, random room that Jarvis had lead me too. "Kim?" She quickly spins around to look at me, surprised and... anxious.
"Oh! Loki. I didn't know you were there." She says in a quick, airy tone. "What did you need?" I shut the door behind me.
"Why are you avoiding me?" I ask. A simple enough question, really.
"I... what are you talking about? I'm not avoiding you." She says quickly.
Lie
"I just haven't seen Sophie in a while. I really want to catch up with her." She says. "Her life seems so adventurous next to my boring life."
Lie.
I nod in understanding. "And why were you in New York, again?" I ask, pretending to forget.
"My grandfather is visiting old friends. I didn't want to stay at their place." She says. She's becoming more relaxed.
Lie.
"Ah, yes. Greg." I say, as if I've only just remembered his name. I narrow my eyes at her. "You do know what I am the god of, correct?" I ask. She nods slowly. "Good. Then you know that it is no use continuously lying to the God of Lies." She freezes. "I know that you're hiding something. From me, from Sophie. I will find out your reasons for being here, and if they are harmful, I will not hesitate to kill you." Kim is standing, frozen in her spot. "Is that understood? Good." I turn to leave the room, lying my hand on the doorknob.
"Make wise decisions Kim, because I will find out what you are up too."
