A sharp beeping jarred into my brain, each time it sound feeling like someone was inside of my head with a jackhammer. My eyelids felt like they were glued shut, and everything was sort of foggy. The beeping continued, and I knew if I didn't shut it off it was going to drive me insane. I peeled my eyelids open to see a white room, my arms were hooked up to a dozen machines. There was something in my throat that was breathing for me, and I knew not to panic, to just let it do its work. Something I had grown used to after using my powers so much.

My arms felt like lead as I tried to reach out and take the clip off that had me clipped to the heart monitor. I was able to slip it off, and the machine flatlined. Two people burst into the room seconds later.

"Fitz, what happened?" The woman yells. She had strait brown hair pulled back into a ponytail, and her eyes looked at the machine frantically. The man with curly hair, Fitz, looked over the various needles until he saw it. He sighed in relief.

"Simmons, it's fine. The finger clip slipped off." He says, clipping it back on. His accent made the words sound strange. The woman, Simmons, relaxes as the heart monitor registers my heartbeat again. I notice the man Fitz staring at me with wide eyes.

"Well that's good then." She says, checking the other machines. "I told you it was a good idea not to call the Avengers down here yet."

"Jemma." The man says, still staring at me.

"I mean, imagine the panic we would have caused if we had called them in and made them upset, just to find the finger clip had slipped off." She continues.

"Jemma....."

"I mean," she stops, finally noticing the man's face. "Fitz, what's wrong?" She follows his gaze to see me, and her eyes go so wide I think that they might pop out of her head. "SOPHIE!" She yells. "Fitz, help me get the life support off of her! Oh my... You're awake! I can't believe it!" She and the man work quickly, getting the tube out of my throat and a few of the machines away and unhooked. I breathe on my own and try to sit up, but they both instantly protest.

"The bed comes up on its own, just let me..." The man fumbles with something on the side of the bed, and the end holding my upper half raises up, letting me sit up.

"I'm going to go get her some yogurt or something, she must be starving! Fitz, you stay here." The woman commands, rushing out of the room. The man nods, even though she's already left, and turns back to me.

"We need to make some calls now. Oh, the avengers will be so happy you're awake. This is so exciting." He says with a large smile. I give him a half smile back.

"Where am I?" I ask, looking around the room. My voice sounds like a gravely whisper, my throat sore.

"Oh, it's normal to be confused. Plus, you weren't exactly awake when we brought you in here, so that's not good either." He rambles. "You're in the New York headquarters. Best place for you." I nod slowly. Why on earth was I here? All I had done was use my powers a bit too much....

"And you are?" I ask. He looks at me with a strange look.

"Fitz...." He looks at me hard. "Man, you must be really confused. You don't even look like you recognize me." He says with a nervous chuckle.

"Should I?" The second I say that the nervous smile drops off his face. "I mean, your accent sounds sorta familiar." I say quickly at the panicked look on his face. He just sort of stares at me, and I look away, uncomfortable. My hand flutters to my stomach, and when it meets the tiny midsection, I frown. Something was missing. I... I could feel it.
