Charlotte's heart squeezed when she stomped to the elevator and realized her girlfriend did not chase after her. She huffed and decided to just leave the building.
Alone in her Porsche, she suddenly didn't know where to go. She thought for a moment and decided to text her best friend Marima.
“Hey, are you free for lunch?”
“Sure, do you mind if I bring Liam?”
“Of course, see you at our favorite cafe?” Charlotte's upset face finally had a slight smile at the thought of seeing her godson.
In a slightly better mood, she drove to the cafe and waited for her friend. Her phone showed a message from her girlfriend.
“Where are you?”
Charlotte bit her lips and felt guilty. She drove them to the meeting after all, but it wasn't like Somtam was not at Engfa's beck and call.
“I need some time.” She replied.
Engfa groaned at the reply and ran a hand through her hair. Did Charlotte really just leave her at the office when she knew she was the one with the car? The original plan was for them to have lunch together then Charlotte would drop her at Engfa's next workplace.
“Now what?” Engfa complained to no one and decided to text P’Sun. She couldn't believe how childish her girlfriend was. It was not a big deal, could she not have her own privacy some time?
Engfa never replied back, Charlotte pouted and sulked as she mindlessly looked at the menu.
“Lottie!!!” Suddenly a little boy ran towards her, Charlotte's pout immediately went away as she bent down to carry her godson.
“Oh, Liam. I missed you so much!” Char exclaimed, squeezing the precious toddler in her arms.
“I missed you too!” Liam said toothily, just seeing his innocent face made Char's worries go away.
“Hi, Char. How are you?” Marima's elegant and calm presence basked over her as she leaned over to hug her best friend.
Charlotte closed her eyes for a second to enjoy Marima's soothing presence. She put Liam in the booth before sitting next to him.
“I'm good, Mar. You?” Char smiled at her best friend. They had idle talk after they ordered their food, simply catching up on life. They also talked about their friends, Heidi and Tina and what they were doing now. Once in a while, Char paid Liam attention as he babbled nonsense to her with a smile.
Being with the mother-son duo greatly relaxed Charlotte, she was laughing and smiling widely as she hung out to them.
When the simple conversation lulled down, Marima put down her fork and finally asked. “So, how are you and P’Fa?”
“We're good.” Charlotte said but she avoided eye contact with her friend. They were in a secluded and private corner of the cafe, no one was in proximity or came to bother them.
“Char, look at me.” Mar said with an eyebrow raised.
“What? I'm fine, we’re fine!” Charlotte replied defensively.
“Then why did you suddenly ask me out?”
Charlotte's shoulders slumped, “Can't I hang out with my best friend and my favorite kid?”
“You only have one kid.” Marima said with a no nonsense look. “Come on, spill.”
Charlotte played with her food without eating it, she glanced at Liam and saw that he was entertaining himself with a coloring book and sighed.
