The sunlight streamed in gently onto the front porch, where the puppies were sniffing around for fun. They were a little old now and their movements were slower than they used to be. Still, their tails still wagged when they saw their favorite people come out of the front door.
“Mae, where's nuu?” Little Emma held her mother's shoulders as she lifted her leg for her mom to put the sock on. The pink sock reached just below her kneecaps, paired with a pick jersey shirt tugged into a pair of black shorts.
“Your sister is crying, wait for her for a bit. Lift your other leg, baby.” Engfa's soft and loving voice spoke as she fitted another sock into another slim leg. Then, she carefully put the small shoes on her daughter's small feet.
“Why is Cha Cha crying?” Emma, ever the protective older sister, became worried and hurried back to the door. She wanted to go back in but Engfa held her hand with a shake of her head.
“You just wore shoes, Em. Wait for mummy, she'll bring your sister.” Engfa explained patiently, but she too, casted worried looks into the house.
Just as her sentence ended, the beautiful sight of her wife appeared with their other five year old on her hips. Charlotte's long curly hair bounced as she walked, her pink shirt tugged into a pair of mom jeans that hugged her figure well.
The little five year old was hiding her face in her mummy's neck, her hands holding tight to two bunny plush toys. She was hiccuping, making her little body jerk once in a while.
Charlotte walked to her wife who was waiting at the door, both of them exchanging helpless but a lovely look.
“Mummy, why is Cha Cha crying?” Emma tugged at her mummy's pants and looked up worriedly.
“Because your little sister wanted to bring her entire basket of toys out.” Charlotte explained in amusement. She adjusted her body to show Emma her little sulky nong.
“How did you let her agree to just two?” Engfa chuckled as she reached over to carry Chalisa from her wife's arms. She looked at the sulky girl whose personality was a mirror of her wife's. She said affectionately, “My stubborn girl, are you feeling better now?”
“Mummy is so mean, how could she leave my friends behind?” Chalisa immediately acted spoiled as she heard Mae pamper her with attention. She blinked her big, watery puppy eyes and pouted her bottom lip. She was wearing the same outfit as her sister, except she had two braids while Emma had a ponytail.
“Mummy isn't mean, it's just we can't take care of all of your soft toys when we're at the event. What if we lose them, won't you be sad?” Engfa comforted as she carried her youngest daughter to the car. Their murmurs disappeared as Engfa strapped her daughter into the car seat.
Charlotte shook her head and looked down at Emma who looked back at her. The older sister gave her a cheeky grin, as if she was used to her crybaby sister.
The mother tenderly rubbed her head and then carried her to the other car seat as well. On the opposite end, she saw Engfa putting on socks and shoes on Chalisa’s foot who kept kicking naughtily.
“Mae will eat your foot if you keep moving!” Engfa teasingly pretended to bite on her little girl's foot and giggles burst out of the sulky girl.
“Mae, no!!!” Chalisa laughed, all her sadness forgotten.
“Do you want a juice box, Emma?” Charlotte took something from the car's cooler and passed it to the obedient sister. Of course, she also gave one to the younger sister before she threw another fit.
