Charlotte mumbled in her sleep, then she twisted and turned. Sweat covered her back and forehead, her eyebrows twisted in a frown.
“No, let go!” She panted, tears dropped out of her closed eyes.
Immediately, Engfa awoke and sat up to switch on the table lamp. The warm light created a cozy nook in the large bedroom, yet her entire attention was placed on her distressed wife.
“Shh, shh, shh. I'm here, Char. P’Fa is here.” Engfa gently shook her trembling shoulders, her hands brushed away her tears with heartache.
“Go away!” Charlotte sobbed and tried to push away Engfa's hands with her weak hands. Engfa's heart squeezed in pain, she could only shake her wife more firmly and raise her voice.
“Char, wake up!”
Charlotte's eyes popped open in indescribable fear and confusion, her chest was going up and down in panic. Engfa rubbed her back and then reached to pour her some water from the night stand.
“Shh, you're safe, teerak. Drink some water, shh shh…” Engfa cooed ever so patiently, looking into Char's eyes to dispel the fear in them.
Char's throat was still tight, she bent her head and sipped from the tilted cup held by Engfa.
“Better?” Engfa asked softly. “Hold it yourself,”
“Fa, don't go!” Charlotte panicked with her hoarse voice when she saw Engfa getting up.
“Just a while, baby. Don't be scared.” Engfa brushed her messy hair behind her ear, some strands had stuck to her wet forehead. With quick but sure steps, she walked to the closet to retrieve a fresh set of pajamas and some hand towels. Then, she went to the bathroom for a quick minute before coming back out with a small basin.
“What are you doing?” Charlotte asked in confusion. The air was quiet, the lighting gave the room an ambient vibe, the shadows moved gently as her wife came to the bed.
Engfa placed the cup in Char's hand and put it back on the nightstand. Then, she squeezed the warm hand towel, lifted her wife's chin and wiped her face. “If you continue to sleep like this, you'll get a cold na.” She spoke softly.
Every word and action carried immeasurable care for her, Charlotte's heart was filled with sweetness. Char relaxed her tense shoulders and looked at Engfa's movement, her long lashes fluttering into a reluctant blink after staring for too long. Engfa's hand moved to unbutton her pajama top, a patient and loving smile still on her face.
“I can do it myself…” Char blushed but made no move to lift her hand, she really loved being taken care of by her wife.
“I know.” Engfa continued to smile and pushed the top down her wife's body. Her eyes naturally looked at the alluring sight of her wife's white, delicate shoulders glistening in the light and the beautiful curves on her chest. Her lips tugged into a deeper curve as she said, “lean on me, bee.”
Charlotte smiled shyly and leaned forward towards her wife, her head resting comfortably on Engfa's strong shoulders. Soon, she felt the soothing sensation of the warm towel wiping her sweat-soaked back. Engfa pulled back after she was done, then helped to dress her little wife into a silk material pajamas so that it was more comfortable and cooling to the skin.
“Better?” Engfa asked again, her eyes filled with heartache as she looked at her wife.
Char nodded happily and snuggled close to her wife. Her face was tugged perfectly under Engfa's chin like puzzle pieces that meant to be together “Thank you, Fa. You always take such good care of nuu.”
