"Charleon!" I called out, my voice bubbling with joy as I ran to him. "Hey stranger." He replied, taking me up into his arms and spinning me around, his blonde hair fluttered in the wind, his blue eyes were like melting icicles as they stared into mine. "Haven't seen you in a while." He grinned and touched his nose to mine.
"Oh, I know. It's been a whole two hours!" I nodded sarcastically, causing him to shake his head.

"How's it feel to be Mrs. Ledden?" He asked.

"Hm," I tapped my chin, "I wouldn't know, it hasn't happened yet." He rolled his eyes. "Oh, come on, we're basically married."

I lightly pushed my fist into his chest. "No, marriage is a sacred thing. Being engaged is NOT the same thing." His lids fell low. "Someone seems excited." "Of course."

"Hey, lovebirds!" I turned my head to the familiar voice. My older brother sighed with a knowing grin. "You can't just do that out here." Charleon set me down quickly. "Besides, you have places to be." He hastily grabbed my arm.

"You're acting as if I forgot." I wrenched my wrist from his grasp, turned back and gave Charleon a 'goodbye look'. "You're sure acting like it." "I wouldn't forget my final exam, Dimitri."

"I still can't believe it," he quickened his pace yet still took the time to act reminiscent, "of all things, you chose to be a knight."

"I'm choosing to be a knight. I haven't chosen yet. I'm not officially one-there's a difference." He rolled his eyes, "You and your specifics. I'm surprised Charli boy wants to marry you....Hell, I'm confused on how he can even stand you!" I landed a solid punch on his arm. "Ouch, y/n, that hurt, you know." I clicked my teeth. "Good, that means my knight training's been paying off."

"So what do you gotta do now? Duel? Fight to death? Or are you just gonna sit in a room and scribble on a piece of paper?" I side-eyed him. "Weird way to phrase a test, but no, I'll be going over different rules and list the basics of a knight's honor...." He gave me a knowing look. "And thennnn..?" I paused for a moment, cracked a smile, "And then I'll fight to the death."

"Knew it!" We laughed as we ran to the large open building. Its stone exterior cased a mausoleum type interior. That was where I'd take my exam and finally be all that I could be.

I rushed to my place, not even remembering how I got my practice sword, but I did know that I picked it up and held it with me. That was all I needed to feel secure.

Within minutes, an instructor stepped out and faced all of us trainees. We stood in a straight line and stared forward. "Today, you will all be dubbed as knights....hopefully," he paced around, "because of course, not all of you are worth-"
He choked on his words, grasped his throat.

"Sir?" Someone asked before he collapsed. I, and a few others, ran forward to assist him, but his pain only seemed to worsen. He tried to stand but fell back onto his knees, holding a hand out in the process so we'd back up. Then, a student next to me fell. Her head was ducked and she seemed to be forced on her knees as well.

More people dropped and I looked around in horror. "What are you doing? Get up!" I yelled frantically, practically prying a boy by his arm in the process. But, almost as if my words were magic, everyone surrounding me staggered and tried to force themselves to their feet. It was like something was suffocating them and pushing them back down in the process though.

"C-curse!" I heard an elderly voice call from one of the many stone balconies. I looked up and saw all of the spectators gagging and retching, their eyes welling with tears of horror. I hadn't noticed, but the area smelled of death-pure, rotting death. I pinched my nose and continued to look around in concern, until my eyes met the elderly man again.

"Curse! It's the curse!" He yelled, but his finger was pointing at me. Soon the mausoleum was filled with accusation and all eyes were on ME. All index fingers were crooked in my direction.

"N-no," I tried to plead, "that's impossible. H-how could-"

"Seize her!" I felt dreary and confused as two pairs of strong arms wrapped around me. They faltered though, and that was when I noticed the thick black cloud of what could only be described as 'rot' that began to surround me.

"Y/n!" I heard a voice call out from the balcony. Charleon was there, his eyes were begging but his stance was unsteady. Even he was affected by me. It shouldn't have hurt, but it did. He couldn't control it. But it did-it hurt.

But I had no time left to think as I was practically being dragged through the dirt street, all eyes were on me before they were forced to turn away and clutch their guts, afraid they would spill right through their skin.

"What is this nonsense?!" I heard Dimitri's voice, his boots stomping my way. I heard the harsh impact of a punch and realized what he had done when I saw one of the guards writhing on the ground. "You're a knight, why aren't you fighting-" He became overwhelmed with nausea and collapsed on the spot.

"Y-y/n...you-you're..." "NO!" I cut in, "I'm not cursed, I can't be! I'm-" I was thrown to the ground by the other guard. He put his hand over his mouth and turned away for a brief moment.

"Get word to the king..." He yelled between gags, "the curse has struck and...ugh...must be contained." Someone sprinted to a horse and galloped somewhere north-the direction of the castle.

"No, no, no....this can't be....who would do this?" My hands gripped a fistful of dirt as the horror stained my eyes. Someone had to have plagued this on me...who...who would do this...who?

"Y/n!" Charleon's voice was desperate and he practically slid onto the ground in front of me. He cupped my face, brought my forehead to his. "Get...away." I practically begged. "No, no...my sun, I won't." "Please...I'm...I'm cursed-" "And I will do everything in my power to fix it."

"Charli, my soul will be gone for eternity-"
"I'll become immortal for you, sweetheart."
"Don't-"
"I will. I know a witch...By all that I love, I promise I will. And I will find you and I will bring you back."
"Charli, you..."
"I promise, okay? So promise to wait for me."
"I don't think I have much...choice..." I began to drift away and he laughed a painful laugh.

"I love you." He said. "I...love...." The world went black. I couldn't even feel how desperately he cradled me in his arms or hear his cries as the imperial guards ripped me away from him.
