"Your lover?" He asked with a smirk, walking backwards now. I didn't say much which caused him to almost fall over in a fit of laughter. "I may be a Legend but even I can't reverse time."

"No," I quickly spoke. "He told me...he told me he'd make himself immortal." I felt breathless as I spoke. He had to be alive.
"People don't just become immortal, y/n." He said my name but I forced myself not to be too surprised. "He said he knew a witch."
He stopped in his tracks. "And people don't just KNOW witches." His voice was cautious now. "Who exactly was this man?"

"His name is Charleon Ledden."

And that was when he completely froze, grinned. "You know him." I stated, it wasn't even close to a question. "I suppose I do." He turned back around and continued to walk. "I can bring you to him if you become my queen."

A wave of heat flushed over me and I was instantly plagued with anxiety. "I...thought you just needed my help.."
"Oh, don't be confused. This is a part of it." He sighed as if telling me was such a difficult chore. "I must take you as my bride if you're not to be slaughtered." I jolted at his words. But before I could ask why, he continued. "Word has probably already gotten out that you've awoken from your sleep. Everyone from every kingdom will be against a cursed girl roaming the streets."

It made sense but I felt an unknown type of pit in my stomach. He was the King of Deceit so maybe my body naturally knew not to trust him. "Marrying me will give you a sort of...immunity. They can't touch the bride of a Legend. That's a death sentence in itself." I nodded but still felt reluctant. "And before you object, this is against your will. And...." He added with a grin, "It will be in name only, so don't assume I am keeping you from your beloved Charleon."

I blushed slightly and looked down at the sound of his name. He was alive. He was alive. He was alive. And now I had a reason to live too. I caught myself smiling and quickly grunted and stood my ground once more. "Fine. It seems I have no choice anyway."

"You don't." He ushered me forward to the giant front doors to his castle. I half expected to see a drawbridge. The doors swung open and two people pressed their weight against each side.

But I studied them. Only for a second....but that was a second too long. "Why...." My question trailed off as I stared at the zombie-like guards.

"Oh, don't mind them." The King continued to lead me past them. "They're just almost without a soul." I gaped, stared at them with pity and horror. He seemed to notice which caused a grin to crawl along his face. "Don't start feeling bad for them now," he clicked his tongue, "they couldn't tell anyway."

He leaned forward and knocked his fist against the left guard's head. "Practically hollow," He turned to me, slid his hands behind his back and the doors began to close. "All they know how to do anymore is follow my orders." My heart dropped to my stomach. I was afraid. Yet my eyes glared-full of anger.

"Stop that." He commanded and I instantly turned away. "They chose this life. They came to me. They OFFERED away their souls." He started walking again and brushed past me. "It's their own faults." And suddenly he was giddy again and telling me to hurry up and telling me all about my custom room.

But I could tell then. I could see so clearly what he was. While my soul may be shattered-he never had one in the first place.

"Sit tight, my queen." His star-laced eyes twinkled as he spoke, but I just stood still in the doorway until I heard the shutting click.

I slumped down. I looked around. The room had beautiful wooden beams that crossed each other on the ceiling. The walls were a quaint lavender, and a large, plush bed sat in the center. A tall window and balcony was in place of a back wall.

But, the luxury didn't matter to me. I had been trying so hard to keep a straight face. Ever since I awoke. I had once cried so much I drowned myself in one of my many, many lives. But now I couldn't seem to find the tears.

They were gone and so was I. All I knew was that my family was dead. My brother....Dimitri was dead but Charli...Charli was waiting for me.

Charli had to know I was free. I had the sudden thought that maybe I could escape this place but I didn't know where I was.

I slowly stood up and walked to the window. All that could be seen were fields and fields of endless snow. Not a footprint in sight. Save for the ones at the entrance of course.

And The King of Deceit-Leo-had gone somewhere. Which was strange since he made completing his story sound so urgent.

But there was still much I didn't understand-I folded up into myself on the floor in a nook between the bed and the nightstand-and I thought.

There was much that people didn't know about the legends. I don't think anyone knew about their end goal. But maybe Angel did. Maybe Angel killed herself, not because of the weight of the prophecies, but because she saw the end and couldn't bear letting it happen.

Maybe if I help Leo, I'm helping destroy everything and I'll never get the liberty of seeing my Charli again.

And I sat there and I pondered and I wondered and I weighed my options like that for a while. I must've dozed off at some point because I awoke to the feeling of a chill. It crawled down my spine and jolted my eyes open.

"You know there's a bed right next you, right?" Leo's dark voice loomed over my head. I lifted my gaze and saw him leaning against the wall across from me. "You look sad," he stated, "were you crying?"

"No." I took a breath. "What time is it?" He just stared at me for a moment. If I could make out any movement of his eyes I could've sworn I would see him eyeing me up and down as I sat there in the fetal position. "It's time for you to get up." He gently pushed himself off the wall.

"Clothes." He pointed to the fabric laid out on the bed as if I didn't know what the word meant. "Get dressed and meet me in the main hall." And just like that, he swiftly left the room. Leaving me all alone again.

I brought myself to my feet and stared out the window. It was the dead of night yet again.

Had I slept a full day or not at all?
