"You've gotten your book, why must she leave?" Charleon challenged, pushing me behind him. I tried to move past his arm to tell him to stop but he was firm in his stance. Leo laughed, gripping the wall to hold himself up.

"And what makes you think you can speak to me like that?" He straightened up now, his smile was cruel and cold. Charli remained silent. "We have much more to do-none of which is your concern." Leo stated and nodded at me to come forward.

"Don't worry, once this is all over, I'll come-" I started but Leo spoke again. "How did you become immortal again, Charles?" Leo asked, accusation dripping from his lips.

"What are you trying to say?" Charli challenged but Leo just grinned again. "Nothing. Nothing at all." He grabbed my hand. "Come on, my queen, let's go." Charli reached for me but quickly drew his hand back. "I'll be waiting for you." His tone was sorrowful and his head was lowered. I couldn't bear to leave him like that but I had no choice.

Leo practically dragged me to the carriage and we set off almost instantly. I stared wistfully out the window in the direction we left before turning to Leo, my teeth grinding in annoyance.

"Why did you do that?"
"Do what, queenie?"
"Why did you act like that? He wasn't hurting me-"
"I don't like him." My eyes widened at his words, but he just stared out the window. "Besides, we needed to leave anyway."

I scoffed, "For someone as old as time, you sure are childish." He grinned and shook his head. "Maybe." Then he turned to me, his face completely serious. "But, are you sure you trust him?"

And the way he spoke made me second guess myself. Of course I trusted Charleon. Why wouldn't I? But, Leo's earnest expression made me start to think I shouldn't. That was a ridiculous thought though. "Of course I do." I was quick to answer.

"Okay," he slightly nodded and stared back out the window. "Just know, I won't hesitate to kill him if he tries to jeopardize my plans."

My worried eyes dropped into a lowered gaze of annoyance. "So, that's what it is?" I smiled with disdain. "You think he'd want to keep me from you. Is that it?"

Leo cracked a smile and leaned his head against his hand. I could've sworn he was eyeing me up and down. "And what if it is?" His Cheshire grin was taunting and cruel. I huffed a breath before looking out the window again.

"Where are we going now?"
"Back."

I turned to him with concern. "But, the Royal Guards-"
"Are taken care of."
I still stared at him with worry but he just laughed it off. "Don't worry, little queen." His eyes dazzled with amusement as he reached forward to nudge my cheek with his finger.

When we finally arrived at the starless, night plagued snow field, there wasn't a single sign that anyone had been there. "I thought you said they'd storm this place." I hesitantly stepped out of the carriage.

"And they have." He carefully led me through the billows of white. "But, my castle doesn't like intruders very much."

When we stepped inside, I froze and rooted to the spot. Before me lay men scattered across the entirety of the main hall's floor. "Well, that's unfortunate." Leo remarked carelessly.

My hand shakily covered my gaping mouth. "A-are they...."
"Dead?" He turned to me. "No, they're just-" A deep groan came from deep within in him and he dropped to his knees.

One hand clutched his stomach and the other clawed the floor. "Leo!" I yelled and bent down beside him. "W-what's wrong?" He tried to wave me off and push me away, but I was frantic and kneeling over him.

"Go...go..." He tried to speak until his face shot up and his eyes met mine. Inside of them I saw stars swirling and constellations of screaming faces forming. I could see the blue matter of souls wailing and clawing at his lids. "Go! Hurry!" His hand gripped the skin around his eyes and he groaned in more agony.

"I...need them..." Suddenly his voice was dark and distorted. It wasn't cruel and deep anymore, it was haunting and the complete opposite of human. "I need them!!" He growled in desperation but his body protested.

He was practically crawling towards the fallen soldiers on the floor. I halted my sprint in horror as the inhumane voice coming from him mumbled and grunted. "Souls...souls...souls...."

And I didn't know what to do. But, I felt like I needed to do something. He was desperate for souls, and, from what I could tell, the soldiers on the floor still had theirs. But, he fought himself and strained against his urges almost as if it pained him. I racked my brain in search for any knowledge on his Legend. However, I was so frantic that I couldn't recall much.

All I knew was that he said my blood was enchanted-that I was enchanted. So I ran to the large dining table and snatched a glass plate. I winced before smashing it against the edge of the wood and grabbing a large shard.

"Hey!" I yelled as he grew dangerously near to one of the unconscious bodies. His head didn't so much as lean in my direction until I sliced open my palm.

His neck snapped in my direction as the dark liquid splattered on the floor. And before I could even blink, he was on top of me and his hand was placed over my neck.

I shook violently as he reached down to my wounded hand. "Leo..." I pleaded but he couldn't hear me. His eyes swirled more as he lifted my wrist. He eyed my blood and then looked back at me. "What a sweet scent," but the voice wasn't his and he didn't recognize me-not one bit. "I wonder what your soul tastes like."

His tongue slowly slid from his mouth and hovered in front of my cut. Heat rose to my face out of fear and embarrassment as he began to lick the blood from my palm.

I forced my eyes shut, but when I opened them again his nose was almost touching mine and he was staring at me in a way I couldn't identify. "Should I just take it right out of your pretty little mouth?" He asked as his face tilted and his hand slid from my neck to my cheek.

I panicked and, without much thought, I wrenched my hand from his grasp while he was distracted and forced it over his eyes.

I couldn't tell if the blood had gone in, but he froze in place and stopped any and all actions he was previously doing. I slowly slid my hand away to reveal a drop of black blood falling from his left eye.

The swirling stars and screams in his eyes settled back down into their regular starry galaxies. And he stared at me for a moment-a long moment.

His breaths were shaky and slow and his hand slowly moved from my face. He shot up and turned his back to me. I could see him place his hand on his temple, his other hand rested on his hip. He tapped his foot anxiously as he stared down at the unconscious men on the floor.

"Are...you okay?" I rested on my elbows as I watched him run his hands down his face. He turned slightly but still didn't face me.

"Thank you."

And then he walked away.
