I shot up from my spot and ran two shaky hands through my tangled hair. If what I assumed was correct, then Leo lied to me about releasing the curse. He lied and called Charli to pick me up.

He casted me out because he had to.

But, that also means, that if this assumption is correct, then Charli was the one who released it on me. But, why would he do that? Why? Didn't he only become immortal for me?

"No....this doesn't make any sense...." I bit the nail on my thumb as I paced around the room. "We have to get out of here!" I whipped my head around to the men in the cage. "Now, why and how would we even do that?" Dierdre sighed.

"Can't you break through the bars or something?" I pointed to Antonie, and he seemed to know even though he couldn't see me.

"If I could, I would have already." He twirled some straw in his hand.

"Well, we have to do something! We can't just let Leo die!"

"And why is that?" Antonie scoffed, "What other option is there? Let the world end?" He stood up and brushed the dirt off of his knees, "Trust me, everything's better off this way."

"You know, I really fail to see why you all hate him so much." Dierdre scoffed at my words, but I worked my jaw and slammed my fist into the wall. "What has he done so wrong other than be born just like you? Are you really so petty that you blame him for Angel's death?"

I saw them both flinch at the mention of her name. "Yes." Antonie replied. "If it weren't for him, we-"
"You what? You wouldn't have been born? How can you even know that for sure?"

Antonie ground his jaw as he stared at the ground, clearly about to refute me again. "You can't!" I yelled, "You're all Legends, you all have books, and you're all just as much at fault for Angel's death as Leo is! Hating him doesn't make a difference!"

Antonie huffed and turned his back to me once more, but Dierdre shifted his head on his knees. "What do you suggest we do then? It's not like we can stop him anyway-let alone get out of here." He slightly raised his arms in defeat before dropping them back down.

"Maybe...we can."

Dierdre eyed me while Antonie shuffled into an uncomfortable position. "Well," he said, "Get on with it. We don't have all day."

---------
"CHARLEON! CHARLEON, LET ME OUT! LET ME OUT OR IM UNLEASHING THE CURSE ON THIS WHOLE BUILDING!"

The door flew open and knocked me back. A guard stood in the doorway with a scowl lacing his countenance. "Quiet down." He demanded and I noticed the dagger poking out from his belt.

"Please, let me out!" I demanded but his eyes just narrowed down at me. "You're not allowed to leave this-"
"Hey!"

Instinctively he lifted his head to the voice, but his eyes were met with shining blue crystals that melted away any will he possibly had to live. The man reached for his pocket, but I snatched away the dagger. He turned his sights to the wall and attempted to smash his head against it.

I grabbed him by the shoulders but he thrashed as I did. "Let me die!" He yelled, throwing me to the ground. "Hey, Leo's wife, your plan isn't working too well." I heard Antonie call from behind the bars.

I stood back up and lunged forward, tackling me to the ground. "Where is Charleon-your boss?!" I yelled as he struggled under my grasp. "He's heading for The Temple!" He screamed before snatching the knife from my hand and lodging it into his forehead. I fell back and screamed, crawling on my hands to get away.

"Wow, he really answered." I looked up to see Dierdre completely unfazed by it all even though his eyes were still swollen and red from excessive tears. "You heard him." Antonie spoke up, his hand covering his eyes now.
"Hurry and go. Let's see if you can actually pull it off."

I nodded before rushing to my feet and wrenching the knife from the man's face. "Goodbye, cursed girl. I hope you fail!" I heard Dierdre call out to me as I rushed out the door.

I crept through the small hall but flattening myself against the wall when I heard nearing voices. "He's really taking no one with him?" I heard a boy's voice say, "No....taking the carriage....leaving soon..."

I couldn't quite make out the rest of the conversation as they distanced themselves on their route. As soon as I was sure they had fully passed, I ran out from the hall and ducked beside the stairs. I heard elegant footsteps descending down them and took it upon myself to peer through the banister.

Charleon walked down the steps slowly, adjusting the cuffs of his decorative, golden-lined shirt. He had a small, diamond encrusted crown on his head and flowing pants and a woolen cape draped over his shoulder. I watched his proud expression as he took in his superficial outfit.

"Wow, boss, you're fit to be a king!" I heard one of the many Guild boys call out. Charleon nodded in acknowledgment as he reached the last marble step. "I believe you mean god." He corrected as he strides towards the door.

I cringed at his words and wondered if he was the same Charleon I had always known or if time had changed him.

The front door creeped open and Charleon gracefully stepped through. I checked my surroundings before rushing out the entrance just before the stone door closed. I ducked behind one of the saint statues as he stepped inside the carriage. When the wooden door shut, I dashed forward and carefully tried to climb into the back of the vehicle. But, the horses in the front began to set off, so I had no choice but to loosely latch myself on and duck low, my feet barely standing along the bottom rim of the carriage.

Through the back window, I could see Charleon's golden hair and his hand waving in the air, seemingly commanding the two front-attached horses with magic.

When he swished his palm to the left-they took a left. And the same with the right. I gulped, squinted my eyes, and prayed that I wasn't too late to stop Leo.

When I opened them, and lifted my ducked head, I could see a large, holy building in view. I sweat-dropped knowing it had to be The Temple. I clutched my dress against my skin in anticipation, but suddenly felt the carriage slow to a halt. I lowered my head once more as I felt Charleon open his door and step out.

But he didn't walk towards the large building. No. He rounded the carriage, approaching where I was. I quickly hopped down and tried to move to the other side, but I felt his hand firmly grip my wrist. "Y/n, you can't hide from me." He taunted, but I screamed at the sight of his hand.

It was wrinkled and pale. The skin on it was paper thin and threatening to tear right off of the bone. "Don't act like you haven't seen worse." He pulled me forward until I landed into his chest. I reeled my hand back and slapped him in the face.

He lifted his free hand to his cheek and worked his jaw. "Now, that wasn't very nice." He scowled, "If you would stop being so difficult and just let me get to those books, you wouldn't have to worry about my unsightly hands ever again."

My eyes narrowed as I tried to wrench my arm from his tight grasp. "It was you, wasn't it? You put the curse on me!"

He smiled at me, but his eyes remained livid. "Looks like you finally figured it out." He twisted my hand and I yelped in pain, "I'm impressed, really." He chuckled.

"Why..?" My voice was strained and aggravated, "Why did you do it? I thought you became immortal for me-"
"HAH!" He laughed, pushed my back into the carriage. "How cute of you." He pulled a blade from his pocket and pressed it to my neck. "Yes, I became immortal, but only for this moment," He smiled maniacally at the thought, "The amount of potions I've had to drink over the years to keep me young have paid off."

He grazed the blade against my jaw, drawing a thin line of blood in the process. "Once I have all of the books together, I'll be the most powerful being in the world. Forget about just immortality-I'll be invincible." His eyes gleamed with an obsessive sort of sheen.

"I thought...you loved me." I felt myself grow near to a cry. "And I thought the same about you." He pressed the knife against my cheek. "And, I think I did...-love you, that is." He glanced down at my lips before meeting my eyes again. "But, that doesn't matter anymore, does it?"

The blade slid down to my throat once more. I roughly swallowed against the metal. "It's not too late to stop this, you know." I said, my eyes pleading with his. "Oh, but it is." He replied.

And in that moment, a knife squelched as it pressed into skin. Blood splattered in the air before a heavy body collapsed on the cold, hard ground.
