We trudged in a straight line through the hundreds of civilians. And they all seemed to be crossing oppositely to how we were. I looked around anxiously at the eyes that I met in my wake and tried as hard as I could not to look suspicious.

"You look suspicious." I heard Leo's voice in front of me and quickly ducked my head. I felt him squeeze my hand and walk slightly faster.

I looked up again, this time to take in my surroundings. Quaint, brown stone houses and shops surrounded the brick road we walked on and food vendors waved samples in the air as we passed. I caught sight of a mime in the middle of the street with an open crowd circling around him.

I heard roaring laughter and my sights turned to a man in chunky shoes juggling pins.
"Is there a special occasion today?" I asked as I looked up at the blazing sub in the sky. That was when it occurred to me that it might always be night at Leo's ominous castle.

"Not at all." Leo responded as we neared the end of the road where the crowd began to disperse. "This is the Town of Hearts. It's known for its constant festivities. We're near the capital of the Southern Kingdom," he felt my hand flinch in his grasp, "But, don't worry. The Kingdom would have no way of knowing we're here."

"They may know my face."
"No one knows your face. Anyone who did has long since passed."
"Charleon knows my face."

I could feel him tense in annoyance. "I'm sure he does."
I huffed and stepped forward so I was at his side. "You will bring me to him, won't you? You promised-"
"Don't trust everything people say to you, queenie. Especially not me."

I tried to stop but he yanked me forward. "Don't be like that. Once you help me, you'll be free to run to him whenever you want."
"How do I know you won't kill me?" My question was genuine and angered but I didn't sense an ounce of care from him. "Don't put ideas in my head, little queen."

And then we walked in silence. We were apart from the bustling street now and were following a narrow dirt road. The perfectly aligned bricks had longs since dispersed, left behind along with the infectious joy of the town.

I looked up and saw that the trail led up a mountainous, wooded hill. An old house poked out at the end of the road, its shutters barely clinging to the roof.

"Is...he in there?" I asked, lightly pointing with my right hand. "Probably." Leo replied, his tone careless. "What do you mean, probably?"

"I mean he might be here. He doesn't exactly tell me when he moves around."

That's right. The other Legends hate him. And I'm starting to understand why.

We finally made our way to the end of the path and stood in front of the ominous door to the house. Its paint was peeling and it barely hung onto its hinges. I couldn't tell what the original color of the house was supposed to be, but I knew it wasn't initially the grayish brown color that it was now.

Stain-glass windows were imbedded on either side of the entrance with faded and dusty colors. I could scarcely make out a figure with outstretched hands pictured on each, but I wasn't given enough time to study it before Leo was pulling me forward once again.

"Can we just walk in?" My voice was high and slightly fearful. "He gets unwanted visitors all the time." Leo roughly pushed the door open without hesitation.

The door cried as it swung open to reveal a dusty open room without an ounce of furniture. All of the dividing walls seemed to have been broken down, leaving lines on the floor where they used to be.

It was bare and empty save for a mattress in the corner. There was a hole in the roof that brought light to the center of the space and that was where I saw him.
