I darted as fast as I could away from Charleon's writhing body. He clutched his side where I had lodged my dagger-his blood was still fresh along the metal as I gripped it in my hand.
I finally made it to the entrance and rushed through the open door. All of the men and women inside had collapsed on the floor around the church pews. I couldn't tell if they were dead or alive but, frankly, that didn't matter to me in the slightest.
I dashed through the large, opened center of the temple and rushed down a peculiar hall. At the end of it, I saw a gate befitting for the outdoors. Just past it was a beautiful green field with a flower-lined path. I recognized it from my first vision. It was where Leo had to be.
I slanted forward and braced myself against the edge of the wall, but I noticed the iron gate threatening to slam in my face. I dove to the side, landing on my shoulder as the gate door shut with a loud BANG.
I quickly turned my sights to the white gazebo in the center where my eyes caught wind of the horrible sight.
Leo was sat down in the middle of the structure, four books laid before him, each flipped to their last page. He held his left arm up, bending a knife towards his neck, pressing it against his beautiful skin as his galaxies scanned the books before him.
"No!" I screamed but he didn't seem to hear me. I scrambled to my feet and rushed forward as fast as I could as I watched his lips move and his eyes read the final sentence between the novels.
I flipped my dagger in my hand and roughly stabbed it into my palm, scarcely making it to the gazebo as Leo spoke the last words.
"...all ends in death."
And I jumped in front of him and thrust my bleeding hand against his eyes just as the stars and universes shot out of them. I felt thousands of years worth of agony flow into my skin and course through my veins.
Leo's entire body shook, causing him to drop his knife, as the billions of souls crawled out of his eyes and into my body. I had no way of knowing if this would work, but I felt so over-joyed knowing that it did.
The pain and sorrow I felt was unbearable as it rushed through my black blood and into my heart leaving Leo's eyes to empty completely until they were pure white.
My body was the one shaking and convulsing now as I fell backward, but two strong arms caught me and cradled me desperately. "Y/n! What are you doing here?!" Leo screamed, my body writhed in his grasp, I felt my heart expanding and threatening to burst. "What have you done? Why have you done this?!" He yelled, his voice was desperate as he stared down at my bulging, star-filled eyes.
"It's okay..." I reached a weak hand up and placed it on his cheek and offered a frail smile. He leaned into my touch and held his own hand against it. "You...can be free..." My tone wavered before I wailed in pain.
"No, no, my love! Don't leave me!" He pleaded, his hands reaching for my face. "I....I..." I gulped and let black tears flow from my eyes, "I...love....you...." Every inch of me was filled with such intense and agonizing pain, but then, in an instant, I felt nothing at all. "I love you..." He said to me, but it was too late.
My hand dropped from his face and fell to the ground. My head leaned back and my eyes remained wide open and completely black and empty. He lifted my arm and brought it back to his face in desperation. "I love you!" He shouted, slightly shaking my limp body.
"NO! No, please! Please, wake up! Wake up, my love, please, please, I can't live without you! I love you!" Leo begged as he clutched me to his chest with all of his strength. My limbs dangled and my body fell cold. He let out an agonizing wail as tears poured from his white eyes-his heart ached with such intense sorrow, he felt as if he was cursed all over again.
But, suddenly, dark brown irises began to grow in the center of his blank eyes. Pitch-black pupils rested in the middle but didn't coat the entire surface like before. His moonlit skin turned softer and lost its unearthly gleam.
He was finally human-finally mortal. But, he didn't feel an ounce of relief as he clutched my lifeless body in his shaking arms.
