I brushed my hand against her cold face and tucked her beautiful hair behind her ear. Even now, she looked so ethereal-she had always been stunning....I knew from the moment I saw her.

I felt as if I cried all that I could, but tears still helplessly flowed from my now human eyes. My heart ached with a pain so great, I almost preferred the feeling of millions of tormented souls coursing through my veins. I brought my hand under her head and pulled it forward, pressing her forehead into mine.

"Please..." I said one more time but she still hadn't stirred to life. Oh, how I wished she would. How could I possibly go on without her? I can't imagine a life where she isn't in it-but maybe she felt the same.

Maybe, as she ran here, that was all that was on her mind. I had thought she could be happy with her first love. I thought that deep down that was what she wanted. I thought that, by me being a Legend, I had enchanted her and that was the extent of her feelings, but I was wrong.

"Y/n!" I heard a human man's voice scream followed by the sound of the metal gate shaking. I didn't bother looking up, though. I didn't want my eyes to see anything else but her beautiful face.

"Get away from her, you monster! What have you done?! What have you done?! The books! They're ruined!" Charleon screamed, and I heard a painful waver in his voice. I didn't know how he got here, but I didn't care-not at all.

"Let me in, you bastard!" I heard him thrash against the gate and I wanted so badly to kill him. But, I didn't dare leave y/n's side. Because then she'd be truly dead-and that's something I'll never bring myself to face. My lip quivered for what I assumed was the first time in my life as I closed my eyes against hers.

I finally tore my gaze away from her and eyed the dagger I had dropped on the ground. I knew what I had to do then-what I needed to do-what I wanted to do.

I knew for a fact that I couldn't possibly go on living another second without her, so I reached for it and brought it to my neck, but then I caught sight of a pool of black liquid behind my back.

I shifted to the side and lifted her limp yet ever perfect arm. Along her palm was a gash that threatened to reach all the way through her hand. But, that wasn't what startled me.

Fresh, cursed blood spilled out of it. Somehow, it hadn't reversed back to normal yet. I squeezed her wrist and felt a faint heartbeat against my fingers. I cupped her face and allowed my eyes to travel among her features. She was alive. "Y/n! Oh, y/n...!" My mouth shook as my body was filled with slight relief.

I studied her, wondering how it was even possible that she was still alive-how it was even possible that the curse was still enamored with her. But, then my gaze traveled down to her dress' enchanted fabric. The curse must've still been confined within her skin.

I hooked my finger under one of her low, short sleeves. I cleared my throat, fought away the quiver in my voice. "For Evigt Doende." Her body convulsed at the sound of my words.

"Hey! Hey!" Charleon yelled from behind the gate. "For Evigt Doende." I said again, and her body writhed and squirmed once again. I adjusted the knife in my hand before bringing it to the side of her dress.

I took a deep breath and then began slicing along the thick fabric. "Hey! Get away from her, you bastard! Don't touch her!" Charleon screamed at me, but I didn't care to hear him.

I ripped the dress carefully, starting along her right sleeve and all the way down to her ankles. When I cut through the final thread, I felt a wave of dread wash over me, but I didn't dare cower or lower my head.

Just then, I heard Charleon burst through the gate. A giant, dark mass flew over my head and lingered in the air. "I've released you." I stated, my tone even and domineering, "I command you to go back from whence you came." I ordered, still holding my dear wife close to me.

"No." A distorted, rotten voice echoed from the mass. My gaze averted slightly to see Charleon had fallen on his knees just before the gazebo. "You didn't release me." My ears burned at the sound of the curse's deadly voice.

"I did!" I heard Charleon yell from his spot. "Oh, great curse!" His pressed his hands together and raised them above his head. "I beg of you! Bestow upon me the gift of immortality!" He extended his arms and puffed his chest forward.

I felt that, if the curse could smile, it would have as it rushed forward and enveloped Charleon's entire form. "Yes!" He started to say, feeling the effect of the power-but, only for a moment. Because, not even a second later, he was screaming in agony as his eyes bulged with stars and his veins flowed with thick, black blood and his heart was pumped with souls.

His wails were ear-piercing until he finally collapsed on his face and his body lay dead on the ground.

My head instantly snapped back to y/n as I felt her shift in my arms. I looked down to see her irises had gone back to their beautiful color as life began to flow back into her cold complexion. "Leo...?" Her voice was small and weak. "Yes," I clutched her to my chest and ran both of my hands in her hair before pushing her forehead to mine by the back of her neck. "I'm here, my love. I'm never leaving."

I could see her lips begin to shake as her eyes watered against my face. "How did you...?"
"Shh." I pushed her head into the crook of my neck as I cradled her in my arms. "It doesn't matter. You're okay now." I squeezed her almost too tightly out of fear that she would slip away.

"Thank you..." She said, practically clawing her nails into my back since she held me so desperately. "No," I brought her forward and placed my hand on her cheek. "Thank you." I said with a warm smile. Her cheeks grew round as she smiled back at me and she was just so beautiful that I couldn't help but bring my lips to hers.

She pressed her hands against the back of my neck as she smiled against my mouth. "We're okay." She said as she pulled away, her tone was bordering on one of disbelief.

"We're okay." I repeated with a nod before she slightly and heartily laughed. And, in that moment, I wanted nothing more than to bottle that beautiful sound up and keep it with me forever.
She was here and she was alive. And I loved her and I loved her desperately and I would never...

Never let her go.
