Armana Frauleins
The door closed as soon as I stepped inside.
"Good morning, Your Grace." I smiled, hiding my discomfort.
"The morning is good when the first thing I get to see is you." He smirked.
Is this how they flirt in the novels? Oh yeah, this is how they do it. My ex-boyfriend could do better.
"Then please take my sympathy for yourself for not having a good morning." I said, smiling.
He raised his brow. "I didn't understand what you meant."
"I couldn't be the first person you saw this morning. It could be your maid, your coachman or anyone." I said.
He looked at me amusingly. Why do I talk
unnecessarily?
Before I could realise anything, he bursted out laughing, unable to control himself.
"You. . ." He laughed again. "Amuse me, Princess." He said, making me confused.
"Thank you?" I said, confusing.
"I was rather hurt when I saw no letter coming from you about your birthday present." He said.
Oh yeah, I didn't open any presents from my birthday because I was busy making plans for my survival and my marriage.
"I didn't get the time." I gave an apologetic look and he smirked.
"I understand. You got married in no time after your birthday." He shrugged. "But are you curious about what I got you?"
I wasn't. He told me that I would hate his gift but what could possibly happen?
"I wasn't at first but I am now." I spoke.
"You flatter me." He said. What? When?
I smiled.
"It was dead rats." He answered, making me stand in shock, disbelief.
"W-What?"
How can someone be so maniac and lunatic? Is he a psychopath?
He nodded, amused by my reaction. "I asked a couple of people from your nation, The South about what would suit Princess Armana and they all answered 'dead rats.'" He paused. "Amazing, no?"
I gulped. My reputation was bad there, even here but I didn't want to spread it further. Nicolai knows about my reputation, so he got me dead rats because the commoners told him to?
One thing was clear, Nicolai Lantsov indeed did whatever pleased him and right now, I was his target.
"Was that your cause of visit?" I asked.
He raised his brow and answered, "I wanted to meet Lorenzo's beautiful wife." He said. "I saw you as the Princess but I am seeing you as the future Empress now." He smirked.
"The Emperor is safe and healthy. You don't have to take it too far." I said.
I don't hate the South's Emperor. Lorenzo's father because he was really kind to me, the last time we met.
He simply nodded. "Then, I shall take my leave now." He said.
I raised my brow, "What was your reason to be here?"
He replied, "I went to see the Emperor but then I realised I haven't met you after your wedding. So, here I am. Lorenzo doesn't know that I am here."
"That won't be long. He will know it sooner or later." I shrugged as he chuckled.
"Will you snitch on me?" He asked.
"I am snitch on no one." I sighed.
He laughed harder this time, "Then farewell, Princess. We shall meet soon."
He left the room, leaving me alone in my own thoughts. What was that conversation just now?
_
"Scarlet, how long have you been working here?" I asked, getting bored because there's nothing to do here.
"2 years approximately." She smiled as she poured another cup of rose tea.
I nodded. "Must've been hard on you." I said, sipping my tea.
"At first, it was hard for me to coop up with the timing. I used to serve Lady Fiona who was very picky." She paused.
Why is she so silent? I turned my gaze towards her and raised my brow, "What happened?"
"This might make me seem like I am the bad guy here." She pressed her lips together. "Lady Fiona, isn't as sweet as you think she is, Your Highness. i want you to be extra careful whenever you are with her."
"How come? What makes you think like that?" I asked as I focused on it more.
Fiona Barlee is the main character of the novel. How come that there's one more person who cannot stand her like Charles?
"Er. . ." She moved awkwardly. "The thing is, when I first came to work in this Palace, I was qualified enough to serve Lady Fiona. I tried to be friendly with her and served her well and I was sure of it, but I came to a conclusion that, Lady Fiona never cares about us servants. It truly broke my heart when I was accused of stealing a white heart stone which belonged to Lady Fiona." She paused. "Lady Fiona put the blame on me for no reason." She shrugged.
Huh? That isn't what supposed to happen. . . but Scarlet has no reason to lie. Could it be. . .? No way. She seemed sweet to me.
"I understand." I said, biting on the strawberry biscuit.
"I apologise, if I offended you anyhow." She said.
"Oh no, you did not. I didn't mind." I smiled.
She smiled back. Spending time with Scarlet is fun. She's super talkative and probably the best company I can find.
"You must have really love His Majesty. Right?" Scarlet asked out of nowhere.
"What makes you say that?" I chuckled.
"Enduring all these for him even though His Majesty doesn't even give you the time you deserve." She said as she looked down on me with sympathy.
Do not. I hate sympathy.
"There's nothing to pity, Scarlet." I said, as I got serious. "I am doing all these because I love him. I cannot force someone to fall in love with me. I am doing all these, already knowing, I cannot have Lorenzo's heart." I smiled as I continued my lies.
Little did she know, I am doing all of these for myself to survive! I need to stay alive! I cannot die by the hands of a beast.
