David: You can't be running around like this. You're still recovering. Lou!
"Don't touch me! Just help me find him."
David: "It's chaos right now. Nobody's finding anyone. It's best to wait it out."
"Nolan! Nolan?!"
He huffed out a breath of air and followed me around. I'd woken up with bandages around my arm, in the hallways, where the people with minimal injuries where. It was pretty much impossible to get anywhere with everyone scattered and yelling. Reporters, doctors and police. It was a mess.
"Nolan!"
David: "You're not going to find him. Hey. Listen to me!"
He cuffed my shoulders and held me firmly. I wanted to shove him out of the way, but then I remembered that he was my friend.
David: "Can you take a second to look around?"
I did so. Many people were crying. Many were wandering around and calling out like I was. It looked like the end of the world or something.
"Nolan..."
David: "I know you want to find him. But we don't know where anyone is right now. Not even the doctors know. Let's sit and wait a while. Okay?"
He pulled me over to the wall and forced me to sit down on the ground. There was nowhere else to sit.
He went to get something from the vending machine and came back.
David: "Here. They said you lost some blood. You need water."
He handed me bottled water and sat next to me. We watched for a while as dozens of people scurried around, sobbing and running.
I woke up in a hospital hallway with only David by my side. I hadn't seen anyone else. Not Mandy or Heather. Not Nolan or even Lachlan.
I brought my knees to my face and tried to calm down.
David: "We'll find him. Don't worry. He's the mayor. They'll do everything they can for him. I'm sure he's just in surgery or something."
He patted my shoulder to comfort me. I looked up at him.
David: "Oh, shit. You're crying...uh..."
I looked away and tried to dry my face.
David: "Um.. do you want a chip..?"
He held a half empty bag of Doritos out to me. Probably from the vending machine. I wasn't thinking properly and I immediately took offense to it. Nolan might be dead somewhere and he was giving me a chip to make up for it?
"Fuck off."
I pushed his hand away and hid my face again.
I didn't see his reaction. But he went real quiet for a while. He didn't bother me again.
I cried some more until an hour had gone by.
The halls were quieter now and the doctors and nurses weren't so crowded with questions and accusations.
I stood up and used my sleeve to dry my eyes.
David: "Uh- I'll ask that doctor if he knows where Nolan is."
He went ahead of me and spoke with the man in the white coat, which had a few red stains on it.
A small TV was above me. I didn't look at it. But I listened.
TV: "Early today around 1:37pm a terrorist attack begun at this year's Pride Festival. The four shooters are said to have been a small anti-gay organization hoping to make a protesting statement about the legalization of same-sex marriages and trans rights. Police reports have confirmed that atleast 30 people were injured with 7 resulting in death. We've heard from witnesses that-"
