(Nolan's POV)
Finally, a month had passed.
And it was August 21st
The day of our wedding.
And everyone was running around trying to make sure everything was ready. Lou and I hadn't seen each other since the night before
My mind had been racing all morning. At first it was pure excitement that I'd finally be marrying Lou. The thought made me feel light and giddy. But overthinking was, unfortunately, one of my strong suits.
"You don't think we'll end up divorced, right?"
Mandy: "Not a chance he'd divorce you, don't worry about that. Now, are you sure you don't want your lashes curled?"
She held up a mini metal torture device and smiled like it wouldn't do me any harm at all. The one thing about girls is that they really live by the 'beauty is pain' slogan. It was admirable.
".. No thanks, Mandy... But, like, what if I mess it up? My memory isn't the best, and I'm still in this wheelchair..."
Mandy: "You worry too much... Sorry, I gotta go check something. Apparently, there's an issue with the seating. Too many people showed up."
"Oh, no..."
Mandy: "No, no. Don't worry. Just stay here and relax. I'll handle it."
She left into the hallway with her phone in hand. Multiple voices could be heard directing people or saying that there wasn't enough of something. I stayed in front of the mirror and stared at the white suit I wore. A little violet flower sat happily above the chest pocket.
"It's my wedding day. Stop thinking bad.. it's my wedding.."
I thought maybe if I said it out loud, my brain would shut off and stop feeding me negative worries about the future. But I couldn't focus with all the chatter and sound of something expensive breaking in the distance.
After a moment, I went outside to a quieter place. I'd wheeled myself to the green field near the chapel, where the only voices you heard were the wind and the birds. 2 small birds in the tree in front of me. I smiled while a blue bird jumped from branch to branch. The other bird was a grey brown. The more I thought about it, the blue bird may have been a male, dancing and impressing the ladybird. I took a deep breath through my nose and processed the scent of fresh grass.
"I'll be okay. I'm just nervous. I'm okay.."
It was a sunny day. Perfect for marrying the love of your life. But my peace didn't last long.
Michael: "You look nice."
I looked to my left and watched as he stood in front of me. About 4 feet away.
Michael: "Wow..."
I felt my body stiffen as he scanned me with his mysterious eyes. He had his hands in the pockets of his dark hoodie, which slouched over his jeans like a lazy sloth. That style of dressing wasn't usually what he went for. I kept a straight face, but deep down, I hoped someone would notice that he was outside with me.
Michael: "I'm not here to bother you. I was hoping I could talk to you. Is that alright?"
I kind of frowned at him. Lou had asked security at the entrance to not let Michael in for any reason. But they might have left to help take care of the chaos with the guests. I checked again if anyone else was around.
Michael: "Did you get my voicemail?"
I searched my memory and eventually found it. I did remember, but I really didn't feel comfortable talking with him. I was already stressed enough, I didn't need him clouding my thoughts.
