We had just returned from helping to stop another Mergequake as well as save some civilians with the help of Wyldfire and our new dragon friends. Landing back in the caves that made up the stables, we all jumped down from their backs as they crawled into the carved out holes that made up their nests. "I'm still surprised at how many dragons decided to stay after we freed them from Imperium," I admitted as Sora, my brother and I walked over to Lloyd. "Having these stables make it easier," Sora pointed out. "Stables that weren't here before the Merge, right?" Arin asked, Lloyd nodding in confirmation, "Almost like everything's coming together for a reason." Sora laughed at that, turning to look at him in amusement. "I love you Arin, but not everything is some big cosmic event," Sora argued, "These dragons love living in these caves. We humans love living in the comfortable Monastery up top." Sora and I ducked back a bit as a fireball shot past us, igniting a torch. "Well, most of us humans," I corrected, as we looked over at Wyldfire, who was playing with Heatwave. "You're getting pretty good at lighting those torches Wyldfire," Lloyd praised as we walked over to the wild girl, "But are you sure you don't want... I don't know, a bed, a bathroom?" Wyldfire scoffed at that, laying back against Heatwave's side. "I'm not soft like the rest of you. I was raised by a dragon! My bathroom is everywhere!" Wyldfire declared as we looked down at the ground in disgust. "I don't think that's sanitary," Arin muttered, Ryu screeching in agreement. "Yeah, well, you always have a space up in the Monastery if you want," Lloyd offered after getting over his disgust. "Don't want, don't need," Wyldfire replied bluntly, shaking her head as we turned to leave. "Is Wyldfire ever going to train with us?" Arin whispered to Lloyd as the three of us headed for the elevator. "She has stayed to help handle the Mergequakes," I pointed out. "Yeah, I'm hoping in time she'll warm up to the idea of becoming a ninja," Lloyd explained as we headed back up to the main Monastery.
"Huh- Aah!" Lloyd said appreciatively as he moved a picture of Kai and Nya's parents so it was hanging straight again, "Perfect. The Monastery works best when everything is in its proper place," Lloyd explained to us, only to look at a picture in horror as it fell to the ground. "But isn't keeping this place running a lot of work," Sora pointed out, "Especially when you're training new ninja?" "And are out in the field dealing with Mergequakes?" I added. "Yeah, maybe you could get some help," Arin agreed, holding up his hand. "Huh, Master Wu could handle everything on his own," Lloyd replied confidently, "It's my sworn duty to do just the same. I got this," He assured us, only to grow annoyed as the picture fell crooked again. Later, Lloyd was picking up the dirty laundry along with an empty pizza box to clean them, Nya tossing in a drinks can as she continued to read through the notes she had taken from the Cloud Kingdom archives. "Lloyd," Zane started, gaining his attention as Lloyd turned, only for the pizza box to be knocked into his face, the final slice sliding down his face. "Sorry, Zane, but I need to get this place cleaned up. Talk soon," Lloyd assured him as we walked away.
"98, 99, 100! Haha!" Arin cheered excitedly as the pair of us finished the training assignment Lloyd had given us, performing punches and kicks on a wooden pole while Lloyd read through a long list of chores he needed to complete within the Monastery, "Done. What's next?" "Huh...? What?" Lloyd asked, having not been paying any attention as he went back to reading his scroll, "Just, do that over again, you two." "Huh, again?" Arin groaned, bored, "Can't you come up with some new drills? I'm bored." "Arin, he's busy," I pointed out, seeing Lloyd's tired groan at Arin's suggestion, "Come on, we can try something else outside." Arin nodded his understanding as we left Lloyd to his work.
"Um, I have questions," Lloyd admitted, looking up from watering the plants in mine and Arin's room as Kai stalked in grumpily, his shoulders and back on fire. "You asked me to train Wyldfire, and this is how she took to the idea!" Kai explained, pointing to his burning backside as the door was pushed open further by Wyldfire. "Train me? I should be training you," Wyldfire declared, pointing angrily at Kai. "Oh, says the kid that thinks that control is to blast everything?" Kai questioned angrily, not taking her attitude as Lloyd put out the fires on his back. "Control this!" Wyldfire yelled back, setting alight one of Lloyd's plants much to his horror. "Ceasefire!" Lloyd yelled. "Tell her to stop!" Kai yelled back, tossing a fireball at the girl as the two squared off across the room. "I'll stop when you stop!" Wyldfire yelled back, as the two continued to toss fireballs in each other's direction. "Aaah! Our room!" I yelled, horrified and furious as Arin, Ryu and I walked into the doorway to see what was happening as Nya and Sora were almost struck by a fireball as they walked past in the hallway. Nya, Sora, Arin, Lloyd and I grabbed the pair, holding back to stop the fight as Zane arrived, freezing the fire to gain our attention. "I need you all to come with me," Zane commanded. "Can't you see we have a situation?" Lloyd replied as we held the still furious Masters of Fire. "Yes, a very serious one I need to inform you about. Right. Now," Zane emphasised at the end coldly as he led us down to the basement in front of a large computer that showed an image of the Merged Lands, "I have spent the past few days catching up on everything I missed while I was offline during the Merge. Especially Mergequakes like we saw yesterday. They threaten to destroy everything, and are increasing in frequency and intensity." "Zane, we know the Mergequakes are getting worse. Did you just bring us down here for that, because I have plants to water," Lloyd reminded, holding up the spray bottle with an annoyed expression. "If it was that simple Lloyd, I doubt Zane would be reminding us," I pointed out, "Did you find something more concerning in your search?" "Indeed, and Lloyd, you must understand the severity of the data here," Zane told him, turning to the computer as he continued, "The Mergequakes are not simply getting worse. Their frequency is about to hit a tipping point. Right now they are appearing one at a time, but very soon they will be everywhere, simultaneously. Until finally, all is destroyed."
