In order to study our capabilities, Rontu and Egalt had us fighting against each other within the courtyard. Sora and Kai were in their mechs, demonstrating their skills as Lloyd, Nya, Wyldfire, my brother and I fought on the ground. Wyldfire tossed a pair of fireballs at Arin and I as we dodged, Arin jumping onto Ryu's back as I leapt away while Wyldfire dropped to one knee, holding her injured leg in pain. Arin was forced to jump down from Ryu's back as Lloyd used spinjitzu to jump up after him. Arin turned, jumping back at him as Lloyd jumped from Ryu's back, grabbing him around the waist as I knocked them both to the side with a kick. Nya then leaped at Wyldfire and I over Ryu, sending a blast of water at us which I ducked under while Wyldfire struck it with her Elemental Power, creating a cloud of steam that knocked both to the ground.
Meanwhile, Kai had briefly forced Sora's mech to the ground, only for her to manage to push him back, slicing off one of his mech's arms before putting it onto her own mech, using to knock Kai's mech to the ground. Back on the ground, the others had all gotten up as Lloyd jumped at me with a kick. However, in a move similar to the one Ras had used on Arin when we first met, I ducked under the kick, grabbing his foot before tossing him at Arin and Nya, sending all three tumbling to the ground. I shifted back into a fighting stance, leaping at the three, only to stop as Rontu whistled, signalling the sparring was over. "Nice move there, Sora," Kai congratulated the Master of Technology as she passed him back his mech's arm, which he quickly reattached. "Eh, it helps when you actually build the mech you're fighting in," Sora replied humbly, jumping down from her mech before using her powers to shrink it down into a shield-like state which neatly landed on her back before she and Kai ran back over to the rest of us, where we stood at the bottom of the steps Egalt and Rontu were standing on.
"Thanks for the combat demonstration," Rontu started, "Our evaluation of your basic battle skills is complete." Egalt chuckled slightly at that. "Basic, is an understatement," Egalt sassed in reply, clearly unimpressed. "Rising Dragon Technique is not just a set of skills that rivals Shatterspin," Rontu continued, "It is a guiding principal, and cannot be achieved until one is a Third Fang Ninja." Lloyd and Nya shared a confused look before the Water Master stepped forward slightly. "Um, we've never heard of a Third Fang Ninja," Nya told the two, confused by the term. "Or even a First. Or Second Fang," Kai added. "That's because we are the only ones who award Fang Rankings," Egalt explained. "We're going to break you into groups based on your spinjitzu skills," Rontu continued, walking down the stairs, Egalt following behind her more slowly, "Because the motion of spinjitzu is the foundation of Rising Dragon technique, as it is with Shatterspin. I'm the First Fang teacher. Sora, Ryu, Tarim, you're with me," Rontu told the three of us, stopping in front of us as Egalt came to a halt behind the others, "Once I teach you how to do spinjitzu, you'll go to Egalt, who is the Second Fang teacher." "You others, get over here. I'm supposed to try and teach you Rising Dragon technique. Which is probably a waste of my time," Egalt added grimly as he led them away from Rontu. Arin briefly ran back giving Sora and I a quick hug before scratching Ryu's chin. "You'll do great, you two," Arin assured us, "You'll be with the rest of us in no time. You too, Ryu." "Thanks, Arin," Sora replied with a slight grin. "You show 'em how it's done," I added, clapping him on the back "Yes sir," He agreed with a mock salute before he raced back after the others.
"You didn't put me in any group, Rontu," Wyldfire pointed out as she limped over, a confident smile on her face, "So I guess that means there's like a hundredth Fang Level, and I'm already there, right?" "You're clearly very talented, Wyldfire, but your injuries are too fresh," Rontu reminded her, shaking her head, "You need to be patient and heal, or you'll never be able to properly train again. Here, give that leg some rest," Rontu suggested, holding out a branch for Wyldfire to use as a crutch. "You're just leaving me out because you already have a Fire Ninja!" Wyldfire complained, looking to the ground petulantly. "You think you're a second fire ninja? You realise there's only one Master of an Element at a time," Rontu reminded her. "That's what Lloyd said, but, hello? Explain that," Wyldfire requested, lighting her hand on fire. "Kai is the Elemental Master of Fire. You are the Elemental Master of Heat," Rontu explained, "Fire and heat go together, but are separate things." "Oh, that explains a lot actually," Wyldfire accepted with a smile, getting rid of the flame on her hand, "Like, a lot, a lot." "You didn't even know your own Element? You have much to learn even after your injury heals," Rontu declared as she led Sora, Ryu and I away to train.
