33) Afraid

“We could kill you, you know? We're capable of that.”

I don't know who they are, but they're right. I know they are.

“Yes. We know,”a boy’s voice responded.

“But we won't.”

“Wow. Lucky us.”

Are we lucky? It doesn't seem like it.

“I don't understand why you would leave. You were safe here. You were special.”

“But he wasn't special.”

“Of course he is. We don't just offer this to anyone.”

“Our friends aren't.”

“You two could be safe. You just have to come back.”

No. I don't know where, but I can't go back.

“No.”

“Come back to us.”

“We won’t.”

“Y/N, you're our last hope. Come back. Take everyone back to WCKD.”

“No,”I begged, sitting straight up. Breathing heavily, I held my chest as sweat ran down my body. Wiping my eyes with my shaking hands, I took deep, deep breaths as my heart was beating a million miles an hour.

Looking around, I saw that it was still pitch black. Staring back at the ground, I shook my head at the dream as I pulled my knees to my chest.

“Y/N-”
“No,”I said quickly, backing away from whoever was there. Putting my head in my hands, I hid my face that was streaked with now dry tears.

“It's-it's me. It's just me,”He soothed, kneeling down.

“I don't want you,”I lied, my face burning as the entry flashed through my head.

“Y/N,”He started, trying to grab my hand.

“No. Just leave me alone,”I snapped, pulling it away.

“If I knew you would act like this, I never would have kissed you.”

“I wish you didn't.”

“Fine. Wish that all you want, but you're not being fair. You haven't even tried to talk about it. You just ignored me all day. You didn't even sleep beside me.”

“You didn't sleep beside me either,”I reminded him.

“Well, it's kind of hard when you go from telling me I mean everything to ignoring me.”

“I wasn't ignoring you. I already told you what was going on.”

“No. You said you had to find out something with Newt. Last time I checked though, he wasn't the one you kissed.”

“No. You kissed me.”

“And you kissed back. You can't deny that.”

“Did you expect nothing to change after that? Did you think everything would just fall into place?”

“No, but I didn't think it would be this hard. I thought-I thought you felt the way I feel about you,”He whispered.

“I do.”

“Then, what's the problem?”

“I don't want to feel this way. I never did from the moment I realized,”I confessed, my voice breaking off at the end.

“The moment you realized?”

“It doesn't matter.”

“It does matter. Why can't you just let us be more? Why are you fighting it?”
