True to his word, Tony comes over on Friday night to Jaime's place. Well, okay, Tony comes over outside to Jaime's. I had been expecting him to come into the house, but instead he texted me asking me to come outside to talk. I hardly argued with it. It's a gorgeous night out with a slight breeze and one of my newer side effects of being pregnant is being warm all the time, so being outside is actually a nice time.
We walk over to Jaime's front sitting area and sit down next to each other, our legs touching. We make idle chit chat as we sit there, both of us liking the casual touch.
"So." Tony says, shoving his hands in his pockets like he does when he's nervous or feeling awkward. "Did you ever end up going out with that guy again?"
I look at him confused. "What guy? And what kind of question is that?"
"That guy you were dancing with when I first saw you in Texas."
"Oh, Duke." I say, which Tony nods at in confirmation. "No. I was never interested in him, not like that."
"Why not?"
I give Tony another look.
"I'm just curious, that's all." he says. "He seemed like a good guy."
"Yeah." I agree. "Just not the guy for me."
"Why's that?"
"Well, you see, I have a man in my life already. He's kind of my husband and I kind of like him." I explain to Tony, a note of sarcasm in my voice.
"You shouldn't." Tony says as a joke, but we both can hear the truth in his voice.
"Yet I do." I say with a small smile.
After another 20 minutes of light conversation I begin to feel very tired. I don't necessarily want to go to sleep since I'm enjoying my time with Tony, but I do want to lounge on something more comfortable, like a nice plush couch.
"Do you wanna come in?" I ask Tony slowly as I gesture to the house.
He hesitates, looking at the house as if its haunted and I've just asked him if he wanted to camp out in it overnight.
"You afraid of something in there?" I ask with a half smile on my face.
"Yeah, your brother." he says, his eyes returning back to mine.
"My brother? Jaime?"
"Unless you have another one I don't know about, yes, Jaime."
"Why are you afraid of Jaime all of a sudden? You guys are best friends."
"I'm not afraid per say, just more like ...avoiding."
I place a hand on my hip and give Tony my best stern look, my eyes narrowed at him.
"What happened?"
"Nothing happened." Tony says sounding like a guilty kid. "I haven't been around both you and him together since everything happened. I know he's chill with me and the whole situation, I just don't want to, you know, risk anything, I guess."
I roll my eyes at him. I don't think Tony realizes just how much my brother truly loves him. Throughout the entire situation Jaime was pissed at him, of course, because when someone hurts your younger sibling bad it hurts you too, but Jaime was also advocating for Tony throughout it too. Jaime was my voice of reason, telling me that Tony did fuck up but that it was a true mistake that he would never do again. Jaime forgave Tony a long time ago and as far as I know, their friendship is back to normal again.
"You're fine." I tell Tony. "Jaime's fine with you, I'm fine, we're all good."
He eyes the house again for several long seconds.
