It's 9am in the morning when I hear the doorbell go off. Being that it's so early and not my house to begin with, I ignore it and continue on with my morning routine. And then the doorbell rings again. And again. And again.
Rolling my eyes at whatever impatient mother fucker is outside, I get up and make my way to the door, which once opened reveals a very excited looking Tony.
"Hey." he says, grinning at me happily.
I furrow my brows at him, confused at why he's there. "Hi..." I say slowly.
"You busy?" he asks me, that smile unwavering.
"Um...no." I say, still looking at him in a confused manner. "Why?"
"I want to show you something." he says. He takes a step down from the porch towards his car, still looking at me as he waves enthusiastically. "Come on."
"Why?"
"You'll see. Come on!" he says. By now he's standing by his car near the passenger side door, opening it for me. "It'll be worth it, I promise."
"I'm not dressed for it." I say as I glance down at my outfit. I'm wearing the shortest jean shorts that are so over washed they look white, with an old over-sized Pierce the Veil shirt. I'm wearing two mismatched socks, one yellow and one black. My hair is still in last night's ponytail, the hairs falling out all over the place. Overall, it's not a great look for me and definitely not one that I don't want to be seen in public in.
"You don't need to be dressed at all." he calls back to me. From where I'm standing I see his cheeks turn pink as he realizes what he's just yelled out loud to me. "I didn't mean it like that, I just mean your outfit isn't relevant to the event."
"So, it's an event?" I ask, still not moving.
"Just get in the goddamn car or the next event will be your funeral."
I stare at him, mouth agape. "I am carrying your child and you're threatening to kill me?"
"Yes, now let's go. You're not pregnant enough to use it as an excuse for being slow." he says as he motions for me to hurry up.
Deciding it'll just be better if I go with him, I turn and yell into the house to Jaime that I'm going out then I make my way towards Tony who is waiting somewhat patiently with his car's passenger side door still open for me.
"Took you long enough." he says as I lean into the car.
"Whatever. This better be good." I say to Tony. "You know I never like to leave the house looking like a mess."
"You look amazing, and this is worth it." he says, not even sparing a glance in my direction.
We talk idly throughout our short drive over to Tony's place. He keeps glancing over at me, an excited smile on his face. At the start it was nice, but at this point it's starting to feel like he's going to kill and dismember me at his place.
Luckily once we get there he doesn't lead me to his basement or bathroom, but rather he leads me upstairs to the room that's right beside our master bedroom.
"Close your eyes." he says. I give him a questioning look that he blows off. "Close."
I do as I'm told because it's less work than fighting Tony and I close my eyes. Tony grabs my hand, causing me to jump a little, and then I hear the door to the room opening. He pulls me gently inside the room, then I feel him leave my side to stand what I think is near the window.
"Okay, open them." he says, his voice bouncing with energy.
I open my eyes to reveal what used to be Tony's office has now been transformed into a completed nursery. The walls are painted a light baby pink colour with animals painted onto the wall that has the crib against it. Adjacent to the crib is a changing table that's set up with all the supplies we'd need. There's a tall dresser in the room next to the changing table. I'm sure if I looked into it I would find that the drawers are stocked full of baby clothes already.
The most touching part of the entire room is the fact that there's photos of Tony and I all over the wall. There are photos from our wedding, there's photos of us on vacations, photos of us in our backyard, everything. Right beside the photo's of us is a photo I got at the ultrasound at my last appointment.
I turn to Tony with my eyes filled with tears. "You did this all yourself?"
"I did. I thought it would be nice for you to have it set up so you didn't have to do it."
"Tony." I say as I choke on a sob. "This is the sweetest thing anyone's ever done for me."
"It was nothing." he says, but we both know it's a lie. This must have taken him so long to put together, but he did it all just for me. For us.
"It's everything." I say to him. "Thank you."
He smiles sweetly at me then presses a kiss to my forehead.
"There's something in the crib for you." he whispers against my forehead.
"For me?"
"All for you."
I detach myself from Tony to head towards the crib where I find a small box. I carefully reach over the side of the crib and pick it up. It's a light box, it feels like there isn't more than two pounds. I give it a little shake to see if I can hear anything rattle around, but to my annoyance I hear absolutely nothing.
"Stop trying to guess what it is and just open it." Tony says.
I turn back and flash him a smile, loving how much he knows me.
I slowly lift the top off the box, and when I do, I come face to face with a very confusing object. I pick it up and examine it, a perpetually confused look on my face.
"Tone?" I say as I keep looking at it. "What is this?"
"It's yours."
"I ...what?" I ask, finally turning around.
Tony is no longer standing where he was mere seconds ago. Now he's right behind me, down on one knee. He carefully takes the ring that I've been holding onto and clutches it in between his index and thumb finger.
"We're already married." I blurt out before Tony can even say a word.
"I know." he says with a grin. "But I felt like I needed to do this again. The right way."
He takes a deep breath, grabs my hand with his free one and starts talking.
"I have loved you from the very first day that I saw you backstage when you were looking for Jaime. I remember seeing you standing in front of our room, and I thought, wow, that is the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life. And then you spoke to me, and I found myself getting reeled in even more than you. I knew I had to see you again no matter what it took, so I found where you worked and just kept showing up in hopes that you would eventually fall for me like I fell for you."
The tears that were building up in my eyes are spilling over now, drenching my cheeks.
"I know that I've made you doubt me and our relationship this year, and I can never apologize enough for it, but if you trust me and give me another chance I promise to never mess up every again. I want to spend the rest of my life committed to loving you in all the ways you need to be loved. You're everything I've ever wanted in a person, and I love you so, so much. Will you, Alia Perry, do me the honour of loving me for the rest of our lives?"
"You didn't even need to ask, of course I will." I say.
Tony slips the thin gold band onto my ring finger just above where my wedding ring sits. The both of them sit on my finger, gleaming at me with pride and love.
Tony gets up and envelopes me in his arm, then pulls back and kisses me firmly on the lips. This feeling right now feels so good, more than that, it feels right. I'm back where I belong and this time I'm not going anywhere.
