Kapitulo 1
Little Adiel's Mistake
They say primary school is the foundation of a child. Little minds are easier to teach, hence, they embed the teachings far deep into their brains, into the neurons and lobes. It is a crucial time for many kids, they learn almost every basic skill needed to succeed in life at school and at home. For little Cyra, it was an important time too because she wanted to make friends. Being the new girl and all, she needed the comfort of friendships.
It had been two months since Cyra's first day and she had not made a friend. No one had warmed up to her. That was what she kept reminding herself of. But she was purposely forgetting little Adiel. The first boy who ever greeted her in class was her first friend. Now, why did the little girl try to forget the boy?
"Cyra, look!" Adiel's whisper made Cyra roll her eyes.
She didn't pay him attention and quietly ate her lunch. The little boy bugged her.
"Cy! Tingnan mo 'to!" this time, Adiel tapped Cyra's arm.
Still no reaction from Cyra.
"Cy, come on! It's been a few days already. I already said I'm sorry," Adiel pleaded. "Hindi ko na nga uulitin. Sorry na kasi. I got you something, oh!"
Cyra drank her water. Patapos na siya kumain at planong ayusin na ang pinagkainan like a responsible little girl. Almost all of her classmates ate lunch outside. She wasn't sure why they didn't eat here, it was cold in the classroom and hot outside. The students usually just brought their lunch bags with them to eat in the canteen. Cyra somewhat found it weird. They go to the canteen to eat lunch they bring from their houses. Weren't you supposed to go to the canteen to buy food?
The little girl locked her food container and put it into her purple lunch bag. Then, she opened its zipper to take the Flat Tops chocolates her mother promised to put. Cyra found out about the little sweet chocolate because Adiel brought it one day and offered her one.
"Cy," ang boses ng batang lalaking kanina pa kinukulit si Cyra ay malambing na, tila nangungusap. "I'm sorry na."
Little Cyra finally glanced at Adiel while chewing the sweet dessert she had eaten. Adiel looked at her with doe eyes, waiting for Cyra's words. There was a little frown on his face, but he wasn't angry or pissed—he was acting pitiful. The little boy didn't know what to do anymore. He had been apologizing the last few days to her, but Cyra never accepted him.
"Stop talking to me, kulit mo," sabi ni Cyra sa batang lalaki.
As if it was possible, Adiel's shoulders slumped to the ground because of Cyra's harsh words. She looked mean too like one of those child actresses on TV that bully the poor protagonists. Adiel never thought she could make such a face. But instead of following her, Adiel continued his kakulitan.
"Just look at this, look, oh!" hinuli ni Adiel ang kamay ni Cyra at hinila ang babae papalapit sa kaniya.
Cyra had to look, napausog kasi ang katawan niya dahil kay Adiel, e. And she saw the lunchbox of Adiel. There were some leftovers on one part, and on another, there was Boy Bawang. Cyra looked back at Adiel while the boy looked hopeful and with intent, almost saying, 'That's for you!'
"Oh, I looked, what?" Cyra pulled herself and sat on her seat again. She ate another Flat Tops.
"That's for you! I asked Mama to buy some, so I can give you!" masiglang balik ni Adiel.
Cyra lifted her Flat Tops wrapper and said, "I have this. I don't need your Boy Bawang."
Adiel's demeanor further went down. He finished eating his lunch and didn't bother Cyra any longer.
