An Uninvited Hug
"I'm thinking of building my business after I give birth."
Adiel listens to his wife as she explains her plans. Iba ang bank account ni Cyra para sa investments at plano niyang business at medyo malaki na ang naiipon niya para do'n. Sa tingin niya, handa na siya para simulan ang pagpapatayo ng business niya; ang unang gusto niyang gawin ay bumili sana ng franchise ng isang fast food, ngunit nag-shift nang nag-shift ang kaniyang business interest hanggang sa napunta ito sa pagbili ng isang condo unit ('yong pre-selling pa lang para mura pa) at pagpapa-rent nito sa ibang tao.
"What business do you have in mind?" husband Adiel asked before sitting beside her.
They were on the couch of their house, watching Naruto for the nth time. Adiel was a little sad the past couple of days because na-cancel 'yong concert na gusto niyang puntahan. Nagkaroon kasi ng sakit 'yong artist na gusto niya, kaya na-refund ang ticket niya. So, their weekend was just them watching their favorite anime show and eating burgers they bought for lunch.
"Renting a condo sana, may nakita ako malapit sa office namin na pre-selling, medyo malapit na matapos, bili sana ako. What do you think?" Cyra replied as she took her burger and unwrapped it.
"Malapit sa office mo? Maganda location."
"I know, ang dami na ring condo sa tabi namin, e, so feeling ko good investment naman kung sakali. Kung tuloy-tuloy lang pagtatayo ng condominium, ibig sabihin, maraming potential people na titira sa geography na 'yon."
"Yeah, 'tsaka may malaki na ring mall sa inyo, 'di ba? May hospital ding tinatayo, kaya maraming lilipat sa ganiyang lugar na accessible mga basic necessities. Good investment nga."
Cyra nods and takes a bite of her burger before saying, "come with me when I inquire about the condo?"
Adiel melts at her voice. "Siyempre. Kain ka na."
She begins chewing, but her tongue forbids her from devouring the food. It was as if she became allergic to the patty and had to prevent a reaction. So, she stood up and went to the trash bin and spit out the bite she took. Safe to say she might not buy from that burger place for a while.
"Oh?! Bakit?" sunod agad ang lalaki sa kaniya habang hinahagod ang likod niya.
Feeling queasy after momentarily tasting the burger, Cyra goes to the sink and throws up. Hindi alam ni Cyra bakit, pero simula no'ng nalaman na ng pamilya nila na buntis siya, saka nagsimula ang morning sickness niya. Parang delayed, kumbaga. Kung kailan ipinaalam, saka nag-inarte ang tiyan niya sa pagkain.
"I don't know," Cyra wiped her lips with a tissue. "Ang bango no'ng burger kanina no'ng binili natin, tapos biglang hindi ko kayang nguyain. My stomach's acting funny, kainis, gusto ko pa naman no'ng burger."
"Nahihilo ka?"
"Hindi, trigger lang talaga 'yong lasa no'ng burger."
"Fries na lang kainin mo. Hiwaan kita mamaya ng peras."
"Okay, thank you."
Umupo sila muli at kumain na. She tried the fries, and thankfully, nagustuhan naman niya at inubos. Binigay na rin ni Adiel ang fries niya sa asawa para mas marami itong makain.
"Next time na ulit fries, ha, oily nito. Fruit ka naman," ani Adiel habang naghihiwa ng peras. He was removing the skin of the fruit before slicing it.
"Yes," sabi ni Cyra. She smiled while watching her husband.
