Kapitulo 10

Admitting with a Few Breaths

Adiel stares at the girl who had unknowingly broken his heart just last week as she laughed with her date while dancing in the middle of the room. The extroverted boy was quiet and downbeat today, only ever looking at Cyra Kapili.

The prom was held at an Events Place in Quezon City. The theme was a starry and galactical night. Almost every girl was wearing a dark-colored gown and dress. Some had sparkles, others had ribbons and bows. Makeup was allowed for this occasion only, so the girls looked like princesses from various castles in Europe with how they looked and dressed. The boys, on the other hand, were mostly wearing coats and either ties or bows. Some guys had waxed their hair to perfection, and some just let their hair go as it normally did. Mga makeup din ang mga ito at naka-watch na binigay ng mga ama nila.

The food available was a variety of dishes and snacks. Juices and water were also available in three corners of the huge room. Every teacher and school staff present also looked dashing; of course, they monitored the event with discretion so as not to ruin the night of the whole batch of students.

Basically, everyone was having a good time except for Adiel Lincoln Torres; the boy looked like the next prom king with his new haircut and sleek suit. He didn't bother putting on makeup since he wasn't used to it, but many heads have turned to appreciate his formal look.

Guwapo lang talaga ang binatang 'to, hindi kailangan i-enhance ang mukha gamit ang kolorete.

The prom's program was already in the dancing part and Adiel was just a watcher right now. He didn't have any date that he could chacha with tonight. The song playing seemed so tempting for him, but who could he dance with given that he had no date? The song was a Bruno Mars one.

Ever since Cyra agreed to be the council president's date tonight, Adiel had avoided her. The girl reached out to him a couple of times, but he never budged. It wasn't only because he felt utterly dejected but also because his friends witnessed Cyra choosing someone over him before he even got to ask her to prom.

The bullet went through him and back.

"Diel, dance with me," suddenly, Summer came in front of him.

"Ayaw ko," sagot ni Adiel.

"I don't care. You. Dance. With. Me," after saying that, Summer took Adiel's hand and pulled him to the middle of the room. "Come on, at least, pretend you're having fun."

Adiel, refusing to oblige, just looked around, hoping Cyra stopped dancing the minute Summer pulled him. But he saw her eyes. He looked away instantly.

"Diel," Summer called. "Don't make me look stupid here."

The boy sighed and grooved a bit to make his friend happy.

"Thank you," she says.

"Dapat iba na lang sinama mo rito. 'Di naman ako sumasayaw."

"Anong hindi? E, ayan nga, oh, you're moving to the beat."

"I mean, hindi ako marunong. Isang sayaw lang kaya kong gawin, ito lang," Adiel showed a move to her.

"Okay na 'yan, basta, gumalaw ka. May plano ako."

Kumunot man ang noo, sumunod na lang si Adiel para hindi na siya kulitin ng kaibigan. 'Tsaka, naroon na siya sa gitna, alangan namang tumunganga lang siya. Baka pagtawanan lang siya ng mga tao.

"Hold my hand," utos ni Summer.

"Bakit?"

"Basta! Here," hinila ni Summer ang kamay ng binata at sumayaw muli.
