Kapitulo 7

Parallel Lines

"Congrats, Cy!" Adiel's words make Cyra open her eyes.

The results of the election for the student council came out today—Cyra won as secretary.

Teen Cyra refused to look at the results which were posted on one of the school's corkboard on the hallway. Her heart was beating so fast that the blood on her body also moved too quickly.

Feeling like it was a dream, Cyra gazes at the results that were printed out and pinned on the board in front with an open mouth. The percentage of votes was there.

She won with 72.6% of votes.

He pulled the sleeves of the jacket he was hearing and wiped Cyra's tears.

"Is this real?" Cyra asked, her voice was a bit muffled. "Baka nagkamali sila."

Adiel laughs. "Oo! 'Di 'to joke! 'Di 'to prank, Cy! Ba't ka umiiyak?"

Cyra began to rant so many things quickly to her best friend while he laughed and helped Cyra with her tears. Other classmates of Cyra were with her, checking the results. All of them congratulated her.

"Cy," feeling a little silly with how they looked, Adiel called her. "You won. This is real. I can't believe you're crying. But like I've always believed, you will win because you can."

Cyra sniffs and pulls Adiel for a hug, her tears still falling. But she wasn't talking anymore. She needed her best friend's warmth. She needed familiar arms to tell her she did it because right now, and maybe in the next few days, she still couldn't and wouldn't understand how she won.

He knew his childhood best friend was nervous for the results, but he didn't expect she was this nervous.

Bakit hindi niya napansin? He was with her all throughout the process of filing for candidacy to promotions. Adiel felt a little embarrassed and stupid, if he had known, he would've assured Cyra more. Baka mas madalas niya itong sinabihang, 'Kaya mo 'to, Cy.'

"Okay," Cyra began to entangle herself from Adiel as she wiped her face. "Thank you, Diel."

The soft face of Cyra shakes Adiel's heart. He never wanted her to cry, but he knew that life would always try to make her cry because life made people sad as much as it made them happy. So, maybe, the best he could do was pull any shirt he had to wipe her tears and embrace her during the sad parts.

Adiel thought of what would make Cyra accept the win. He knew the girl would still be in disbelief even after this.

There were many reasons why Cyra was astounded by the results. One of them being Adiel. She felt like Adiel was supportive of her since the beginning because he was a friend. Apart from that, the competition was tough. She was fighting against a girl known not just in her batch but also in lower and upper batches. She actually believed her opponent would win.
