26 - 'The Song'

Deku POV
"Kacchan?" I try to get his attention.

"What is it nerd?" He responds, still spaced out.

"What's up with you?" I ask seriously. He doesn't respond, he just continues to stare at me as our eyes don't move from each other's gaze.

"Nothing, just thinking." He responds quietly. He seems really out of it, he's just staring at my face and refusing to look anywhere else. Why is he like this?

"About what?" I question as he bites his lip.

"You." He mutters under his breath.

"What is that supposed to mean." I ask as he seems frozen, not expecting to say that out loud.

"Forget it." He whispers as he finally removes his gaze from me to look at the floor. I bring my hand up to his face and place it on his chin. I turn his head so he'll look at me again.

"Don't lie to me." I whisper back. He looks surprised and even a little flustered if I'm being honest. Why is he acting like this?

He doesn't push my hand away so it just sits gently under his chin as he stares into my eyes once again. I take a deep breath as he bites his lip again.

"Why...?" He finally mutters. I raise a brow at his question.

"Why did you date my sister." He says with a voice crack as he looks at me with apologetic eyes.

"I don't know to be honest." I say through a sigh. "I think I was just happy to finally have my feelings reciprocated." I admit honestly as I pull my hand away from his face.

"Ok." He responds hesitantly. He lets out a sigh before standing up from the bed.

"I'll see you later nerd." He says quietly before leaving my dorm room. I take a deep breath as I try to comprehend what just happened. He's acting strangely, like he was before. I know he was in love with me, but is he still? Could that be the reason he's acting so weird. No, I doubt after what I said to him that he retained his feelings.

God, I'm such an idiot.

I press my hands to my face as I internally scream at myself. What if he hadn't rejected me all those years ago. Could we have actually been together? Would it have worked out like I always hoped it would. I guess I can only dream at this point.

I let out a sigh as I leave my dorm room and head for the common area. I overhear someone talking loudly on the phone. I approach the entrance and see Aku with her back to me, yelling at someone over the phone.

"If you actually loved me you would hang out with me! I'm supposed to be your girlfriend and I want to go shopping!! Why is that so hard to understand, are you incompetent?" She screams at the person over the phone as my heart clenches.

'Girlfriend?'

"You moved on that easily, huh?" I address her as she turns around, looking pissed before she finally sees me.

"Izuku- wait." I scoffed at her before walking to the kitchen.

"Midobabe!" I heard Mina say  excitedly as she hugged me.

"H-Hey Mina." I say through sharp breaths. "You're hugging me kinda tightly." She squeaks before releasing me as I take a deep breath.

"Sorry." She says apologetically as I smile at her.

"No big deal." I say with a small laugh.

"Anyway...we're gonna throw another party tonight!" She exclaims as I bite my lip.
