Chapter 5: Fears and Friends

By the time Thursday came around Cayden was more than done with Draco. He loved the boy like a brother but he also annoyed him like one. All through potions it seemed like it was Draco's mission to make others job as difficult as possible. Cayden was paired up with zabini so that was at least a relief. The two had gotten closer over the semester when drama wasn't consuming their lives. Both of them were really annoyed with the way Draco had been acting lately and had been doing their works together. Parkinson and Nott occasionally would join in but Parkinson had spent most of her time looking after Malfoy and Nott didn't really like him. Lunch ended far to soon but thankfully Cayden was enjoying defence and Professor Lupin was a good teacher. He still got an off feeling whenever he was around the man but he chalked it up to the last two teachers putting his life in danger. It was completely natural he would want to stay away from getting overly chummy with the Professor. He couldn't lie though he wanted to know the man. He had clearly seen battle but what interested him more was the range of books he had. Professor lupin had so many books he had never seen before he wondered if he even had muggle books.

Once Professor Lupin arrives in class he immediately tells students to put away their books as this lesson will be a practical lesson. Cayden looks towards Harry who looks back at Cayden, both still traumatised by the pixies last year. The whole class gets up and follows their professor out of the classroom to a larger room almost empty other than professor Snape sitting at a low armchair. The slytherin students all smile and snicker with their head of house sitting in the room. Professor Lupin starts off by asking for Neville's assistance. He starts by teaching the class about what a boggart is before asking Neville what he's most afraid of. The class listens intently and some slytherin snicker at his answer. Cayden however is horrified. He didn't know much about the Longbottom boy other that they were one of the few "pure blooded" families left and that he lives with his grandparents he know that his parents were in St. Mungos. Permanently. He knew who was responsible, practically everyone did. Yet he was more afraid of his professor. Especially with the recent break out of Sirius black if Cayden had been in Neville's shoes he would be more concerned with his parents' torturer getting out and coming for him. But his professor was his greatest fear. He does end up being able to defeat his boggart and the rest of the class gets a chance. Cayden is terrified. What is his greatest fear? Death? Torture? Yeah he wouldn't want any of those things but pointing out a single greatest fear. His turn was towards the end, all his friends had already defeated theirs so he had to do the same. When he stepped up to it, it came at him. Not as a mummy or spider or even flames surrounding him. Just a black mist surrounding him. He wasn't afraid of the dark that was stupid. He points his wand and yells riddikulus. But no words come out. He tries to laugh but he is drowning. He attempts to reach up out of the miss, move but his legs couldn't find the floor to ground himself. It's like he is being drowned but there is no water. He tries to scream, yell, call for help but nothing happens. For a brief second he can hear someone try to tell him something but he doesn't have any air left. His breath more of the black boggart smoke.

He comes to moments later still in the classroom. Professor Snape is clearing students away and Professor Lupin is standing over him. He helps Cayden up. Cayden looks around his friends are all looking at him concerned over their faces.

"What happened? I tried to point my wand at it but I couldn't speak, no sound was coming out." Cayden said more confused than scared. "I thought it was your greatest fear but I'm not afraid of the dark."

"It's definitely unusual, I will have to check it out but are you harmed?" The professor asks.

"Nah, how long was I out for this time?" He half jokes causing Harry in the crowd to break a smile.

"This time?" Professor Lupin says, puzzled turning to Snape who just shrugs. "Well nevertheless I still want you to head down to Madame Pomfrey and get yourself checked out, you were unconscious for about twenty seconds." He says. "Harry why don't you escort him, ensure he gets there safely." He nods and the two boys walk out of the classroom.
