Chapter 6: Friends and Fire

The next day was a Saturday morning. Cayden didn't bother waking up for breakfast, didn't want to deal with everyone. He wakes up and everywhere he goes everyone is talking about the tournament, who put their names in and who they think will be selected. It was everywhere, the great hall, the common rooms, even the library was noisy. Cayden packed up his things and Nox and made the trip to where he knew no one would be, Myrtle's bathroom.

"Hey Myrtle." Cayden says. It had been more than a few weeks since he'd been to see her but she didn't seem to notice.

"Oooo you look miserable." She says happily.

"Not miserable just tired, too many people in this bloody castle." Cayden says laying out his books.

"I love it, so many broken hearts, and after today there will be so many crushed spirits." She says gleefully.

"Well Nox and I are glad to not have the broken hearts or crushed spirits, what we do have is a lot of homework to get through." He says as Nox curiously leaves the bag to explore the bathroom.

"Oooooo he's so cute I just want to hold him." Myrtle says. "But I'm dead so I can't." She pouts. Cayden however ignores her and finishes up his paper for history. He actually manages to get three classes worth of work done. He looks at the time not realising he'd been sitting there for over eight hours. It was now past 5pm and he had to get going. He thanks Myrtle for letting him use her bathroom and not flooding it and ruining his work before running off to the slytherin dorms. He really wished there were more easy ways to get to the basement but unfortunately the slytherin dorms only had one available secret entrance, Salazar really should have planned this better. He puts all his things away and grabs some food for Nox before realising he's almost out again and should make another kitchen run, it would be the third one this month, plus they should have some pumpkins or something for Halloween or maybe even some pig carcass that could have been a failed decoration. He was getting his hopes up and ran into Blaise on the way.

"Hey Blaise." Cayden said.

"Cayden." He says hitting him upside the head.

"Oi what was that for." Cayden asks rubbing the back of his head.

"We've been looking for you all day, where have you been." He says practically dragging Cayden to the great hall.

"I've been studying. I was trying to have a productive weekend." Cayden says.

"You should have told us, we gave up looking for you when you didn't show up to lunch but had you not shown up for dinner we probably would have sent a search party." Blaise said.

"Oh, I did miss lunch." Cayden said. "And breakfast now that I think about it." He says drifting off.

"Wait one second you mean to tell me you haven't eaten anything ALL DAY?" Blaise says.

"Well when you say it like that it sounds bad." Cayden says. "But now that you mention it I'm pretty thirsty." He says as they enter the hall.

"Look who I found." Blaise says forcing Cayden to sit before sitting next to him.

"Where have you been, you missed everything." Draco says dramatically.

"Really, what did you do that was so interesting?" Cayden says sarcastically. No one has a response, they all stay quiet for a few seconds. "Exactly." He says bringing out food and water for Nox and feeding him on his lap.

"Mate." Blaise says.

"What?" Cayden asks.

"You can remember to bring food and water for your damn ferret but not yourself?" Blaise says raising his voice a little.
