Chapter 11: Time and Time

Once they are back on solid ground Cayden leaps out of the chain shaking off the weird feeling he got from time travel.

"I seriously can't believe they would give a thirteen year old a time turner!" Cayden exclaimed.

"Sorry what's a time turner?" Harry says.

"It allows people to go back in time." Hermione says.

"And they are highly illegal except for official ministry use." Cayden comments.

"We have to go before Madame pomfrey gets back and sees us." Hermione says leading them across the hall into a broom cupboard. She pushes the two boys in before closing the door.

"Here, this should help us." Cayden says bringing his map from out of his pocket. "Honestly I have no idea how the magic will work since I also had it two hours ago but lets just hope it does."

"Wait how'd you get the map?" Harry asks.

"I didn't, Fred and George showed me the original and asked me to make a copy, the original for you and a backup for them. It's completely reasonable for me to have made a third." Cayden justifies.

"Shhhh, we are coming." Hermione says pointing to the map. They all wait until their past selves are clear before speaking again. "Dumbledore told me to go back three hours but I have no idea what he wants me to do."

"Why don't we just go and grab Scabbers from Cayden?" Harry asks.

"Because I'd probably curse you before you could get close." Cayden says. Harry turns to Hermione but she agrees with Cayden.

"It's true how would you react to seeing yourself." Hermione says. "Plus we can't be seen."

"Wait dumbledore said we could save two lives right?" Harry says. Cayden nods understanding where he's going. "We can save buckbeak."

"That could work, we save buckbeak and he could provide an escape for Sirius." Cayden agrees.

"I agree, this is our best option." Hermione says.

"No it's not." Cayden says.

"What do you mean, you were just on board with the plan two seconds ago." Harry says getting annoyed.

"We free Sirius but he wont be free, He escapes but everyone still thinks he's a criminal." Cayden takes a breath before turning to Harry, "and you're still stuck with the dursleys." Harry looks down at the ground.

"At lest he'll be alive." Harry says. Cayden shuts up. He knew that the worst case scenario was Black dies but he hadn't actually considered it. He never actually experienced death, all his dead family died before he was born. Death was never a reality for him, not like it was for Harry.

"We don't have the time for a better plan." Hermione says looking at the map. "The coast is clear and they are minutes away from executing buckbeak." The boys nod and they all rush out as sneakily as possible. The three just barely fit under the cloak but somehow manage to get to hagrid's hut.

Once there it's a struggle to get buckbeak to come with them quietly, he'd already seen the scary man with the axe and knew what was going to happen. To make things worse it seemed after what happened with Malfoy buckbeak wasn't exactly Caydens biggest fan. Nevertheless they manage to free him and not a moment to soon. Cayden watches them. He doesn't know why he's there, honest he can barely stand up, worried his legs will collapse under his weight any minute. He sits and watches as his friends do all the work. They get him and hide in the forbidden forest. With a beast that size it was their only option. Now came the long hours of waiting. Hermione clutched the map examining every part watching everyone's move to replaying her past down to the names. Harry sat with buckbeak attempting to calm him in Cayden's presence. Cayden gets up and bows to the bird, a gentle apology. Buckbeak seems confused but Cayden doesn't move, Harry pets his beak and the bird moves closer. Cayden doesn't raise his head until the bird does it for him.
