Chapter 4: Flying and Ferrets

The next day Cayden brings Nox's food down to the hall with him. Pansy's friend the Greengrass girl was disgusted when he brought out the ferret, apparently it wasn't proper. Cayden didn't care though, and most of their friends found it cool. Draco's eagle owl swooped by with some sweets and an apology from his dad that was definitely written by his mum for not being there. Classes started soon enough and Cayden was ecstatic for charms this year. Thankfully his schedule was a good one, Charms with Hufflepuff then care of magical creatures with Gryffindor, Transfiguration with ravenclaw and herbology with ravenclaw. Charms was amazing as always, the schedule for this year was great. Cayden had always thought he was better at potions but after learning more and more with Mr. Borgin and Madam Pomfrey he found a love for charms plus it was always nice working with hufflepuff's.

Draco was not excited for Care of magical creatures, honestly the boy was still scared of most of them after last year. He barely even goes to the glass walls in the common room just to be safe. Still Cayden dragged him down to the field for their lesson. A part of him wished he had Charlie's love for the class, it was alright but if hagrid wasn't the one teaching it he likely wouldn't want to take it. They walked into class and Hagrid was talking about how they'd be able to raise blast ended skrewt.

"And why would we want to raise them?" Draco says disgusted but Cayden elbows him and he corrects himself. "I mean, what do they do? What's the point of them." Draco asks, taking Caydens lack of hitting him as it being an appropriate question.

"Tha's next lesson, Malfoy." Hagrid says after a few moments of thought, "Yer jus' feedin' 'em today." He starts talking about what they will want to feed the while Cayden opens up his textbook for what they do. He can't understand how you could know what to feed something if you don't know what it does. Based on what the creature is they would all have different diets and now he's thinking like Charlie. Cayden got a female one which he figured needed to eat live animals as they have suckers on their bodies to suck blood. Gross. Cayden was glad his ferret made the wise decision to stay in his bag away from this new creature. He was very happy when the class was finally over and they could head to lunch. He ran to catch up to Hermione, Harry and Ron.

"Oi you guys don't really think these things are useful right?" Cayden said.

"As if I only said that to shut Malfoy up." Hermione said. "As a matter of fact I think he's right. The best thing to do would be to stomp on the whole lot before they start attacking us all."

"Give him a break, he doesn't want to be in this class. It's required he still hasn't been right since last year." Cayden says. "But tell him I said that and you'll see why we're keeping these things alive got it." Cayden said and the three nodded.

"What do you think about these things?" Harry asked.

"Honestly, I was worried mine would see Noxxie as a delicious snack." Cayden says.

"Noxxie?" Ron questions.

"Oh right you guys haven't met him yet." Cayden says stopping right in front of the grand hall. He carefully opens up his bag and shows them all the sleeping creature.

"You finally gave it a name." Harry says.

"Yep. No more nameless ferret." Cayden says. "Anyway I ought to head to my table I'll see you all around. Cayden says with a wave and smile before heading to his table to enjoy with his friends. He attempts to sneak off to the Ravenclaw table and talk with Luna, luckily for him she walks off halfway through and Cayden follows her.

"Luna!" Cayden says once they both make it out of the great hall but she seems unable to hear him. He tries to follow her but can't find her once they get to the stairs. He just heads up and ends up on Myrtle's floor. He goes into her bathroom and she is happy to see him. He shows her his pet and she seems happy to have another companion. Before he loses track of time Cayden tells her he has to run and makes it back in time to walk with his friends to Transfiguration.
