Chapter 3: Designation and Destination

Getting to the train was awkward, he'd managed to sneak his ferret home on the last day of work and had been keeping him in his bag. Ms. Malfoy took them alone and as always she didn't look at Cayden. Once they got onto the platform Cayden ran into the train. He found Luna already on waving to her dad from the window.

"Cayden, it's so nice to see you." She smiles.

"Nice to see you too Luna, is Ginny going to be sitting with you again?" Cayden asks leaning against the doorframe.

"I don't know, we'll see what the fates say now won't we." She chuckles. Cayden had grown accustomed to her whimsical nature. She wore the most intricate outfits. Today for example she wore a patchwork skirt with strange symbols.

"I like your skirt." Cayden comments.

"Thank you, my dad made it. It protects me." She says smiling back out the window and waving to her dad.

"Oh Cayden, you're here?" Ginny says behind him.

"Why yes I am young Weasley." Cayden says.

"Hermione told me what you guys said, I'm still mad at you." Ginny huffs.

"I didn't mean, it came out wrong." Cayden said.

"You should apologize to her." Ginny says throwing her small bag on the seat.

"I will, I haven't seen her yet, have you?" Cayden says.

"Not yet, she'll be with Ron and Harry though." Ginny says as she struggles to toss her larger bags to the overhead storage. She huffs before pulling out her wand but Cayden stops her.

"Here let me." He says holding up her bags and placing them above her head.

"That doesn't make up for what you said." Ginny comments.

"What did Cayden say?" Luna asks.

"He was incredibly rude to us and didn't stand up for Hermione when Malfoy called her a slur." Ginny says. Luna looks shocked.

"Really Cayden I thought you of all people would be better than that." Luna says.

"Well maybe I'm not." Cayden huffs before leaving the compartment. He knew what he did was wrong, of course he should have stood up for Hermione, had they been alone he would have. But the Malfoys were so close, he felt like he was still under their eye, any wrong move and he's gone. It was not an excuse, he still acted like a jerk. He would apologise. He'd get Draco to do the same.

He reaches his own compartment. Gregory and Theodore were there already and Vincent was right behind him.

"Draco's not here yet?" Cayden asks, grabbing his ferret before putting his own bags up in the storage.

"Nope, I think Blaise was running behind as well." Vincent said adding his own bags.

"Is that the Ferret?" Blaise says as he reaches the compartment.

"I guess he isn't." Vincent says as he sits down.

"Yep, still no name though." Cayden says. "Do you want to hold him?"

"Of course." Blaise says picking up the ferret who immediately climbs up his head and makes himself comfortable on Blaise's shoulder. "Look, we're best mates already." Draco walks in and puts his stuff away as everyone takes their seats. Everyone starts playing with the ferret the boys making obstacle mazes out of their stuff for him to navigate.

"Wow I leave you boys alone for one day and you throw all your stuff on the floor." Pansy says from the doorway.

"I found a ferret. He is now my child and goes wherever I go." Cayden says holding up the excited creature.
