Lan Wangji stood on the balcony for a few minutes, reflecting on what Wei Ying had said, trying to gather his resolve. He wondered if he could truly commit—to spend a lifetime with someone, embracing their flaws and sharing their pain. He knew he would have to change, become stronger, sometimes bearing burdens when Wei Ying could not. Seeing Wei Ying in such a fragile, empty state frightened him; the image of him so blank and lifeless was overwhelming. Was he ready to become a father to Yuan? The responsibility of nurturing and protecting another life, not breaking or hurting it, was both daunting and awe-inspiring.
Lan Wangji had never feared responsibility. He had taken over his father's company at a young age, ruthless when necessary. But this was different. These were people he loved and wanted to protect forever. They weren’t mere assets to manage but humans with feelings, thoughts, and dreams. He loved them too deeply to stifle or hold back. He did not want to steal Yuan's smile or dim Wei Ying’s emerging light—the joy and warmth that made him fall even harder for him.
It was overwhelming. He had never been so afraid—not because he doubted his ability, but because so many relied on him. Just two people compared to the thousands in his company, but those two meant everything. He clenched the railing tightly. He needed to decide, yet there was no real choice. He loved them both so much, he would lay down his life for them. Even if his feelings changed over time, fickle as human emotions could be, he would not let go.
Exhaling deeply, he left the balcony. He walked slowly to the door of Wei Ying’s room. Voices filtered through—the siblings and the doctor speaking. They sounded lighthearted. He almost lost the courage to knock, but steeled himself and rapped gently on the door. A voice called, “Come in,” so he pushed the door open and stepped inside.
“Hi,” he said softly, smiling as the others left the room to give them space. Lan Wangji noticed Wen Qing’s cautious gaze—warning him that Wei Ying was still fragile and that he should be careful. He nodded and mouthed that he understood. Wen Qing’s face softened in response.
Just as they were about to leave, Wei Ying looked up and smiled faintly.
“Hey,” Wei Ying said. “Rain check on that date?”
His face was still pale but brighter, especially with the hint of emotion. A wave of relief washed over Lan Wangji, one he hadn’t realized he’d been holding.
“Yeah, I got your message through Wen Qing. How do you feel now?” Lan Wangji asked.
“Better… not good, but better. Today’s not a great day,” Wei Ying admitted, catching himself. “Sorry for dumping all that on you.”
Lan Wangji shook his head earnestly. “I want to know how you really feel—happy or sad. I don’t want to be there only for the good times but for the hard ones, too. I’m sorry I hurt you before and didn’t consider your feelings, but I’ll try to be better—to be worthy of you.”
Wei Ying looked stunned, then smiled. “Okay,” he said. “Let’s do that.”
Lan Wangji smiled back, a rare, bright grin like he’d just closed a million-dollar deal. But Wei Ying didn’t know that no contract in the world could make Lan Wangji smile like that.
“So, what can I do to help? I want to make you feel okay, or if not that, at least better. I know I’m not perfect at this, but just tell me what you need, and I’ll try my best,” Lan Wangji said.
Wei Ying smiled mischievously. “Really? Anything?”
Lan Wangji nodded eagerly, unaware he was about to trap himself. Whatever Wei Ying wanted, he’d do—no matter how difficult. After this, he vowed silently to find whoever orchestrated everything that had happened and make them pay. Wen Qing was right—the only one with enemies was him, because to the world, Wei Ying was dead. The attack could only have come from Lan Wangji’s side. He had a spy among his people, the only ones who knew Wei Ying was alive.

In a modestly furnished apartment, a young man hurriedly packed his bags as a woman watched with disdain. Her sun-kissed skin contrasted the thin scar running down one side of her beautiful face.
“Hmph,” she scoffed. “I thought you were brave, but you’re just a coward.”
“Shut up,” the man snapped. “If I’d known I’d end up in Lan Wangji’s crosshairs, I wouldn’t have helped you.”
This man was the psychiatrist who had drugged Wei Ying after being seduced by Ning Xi. As he packed to leave, he saw Lan Wangji enter the café looking worried. Uneasy, he asked Ning Xi about it, and she laughed, saying Lan Wangji had found Wei Ying again. Then she told him everything, and fear overtook him. He quickly booked a flight out—he did not plan to take Ning Xi with him.

**Little Theatre: Wei Ying’s TikTok Antics**
Wei Ying lounged on the couch, scrolling through TikTok. A catchy tune caught his attention—Meghan Trainor’s *“Done Chasin’ Your Love.”* An idea sparked, and a mischievous grin spread across his face.
“This is perfect,” Wei Ying muttered, setting the song as Lan Wangji’s ringtone. He chuckled, imagining his reaction.
Later, Lan Wangji entered the apartment, tired but happy to be home. As he stepped into the living room, Wei Ying burst into song, singing loudly and off-key:
“Dooooone chaaasin’ your loooove!”
Lan Wangji froze, blushing. “Wei Ying, please,” he begged, heart racing.
“What?” Wei Ying said innocently, eyes twinkling. “I thought you liked it.”
“It’s not that,” Lan Wangji stammered. “Every time I hear it, my heart can’t take it.”
Wei Ying laughed at his reaction. “Oh, come on, it’s just a song. And it suits you.”
Lan Wangji sighed, knowing he was trapped. “What can I do to make you stop?”
Wei Ying pretended to think. “How about you cook dinner tonight?”
“Deal!” Lan Wangji agreed immediately, eager to please.
As Wei Ying hummed the tune under his breath, he watched Lan Wangji do his best in the kitchen.
Later, during dinner, Wei Ying’s phone rang, blaring the ringtone again.
Lan Wangji nearly dropped his chopsticks. “You set that as my ringtone?”
“Yup,” Wei Ying said with a grin, biting into his food.
Lan Wangji shook his head, laughing. “You’re impossible.”
“And you love it,” Wei Ying teased, winking.
Despite the teasing, Lan Wangji couldn’t deny it—he did love every mischievous, heart-fluttering moment.
