It was evening. "Come on, Thistle-thorn." Lavender meowed, using Thistle's nickname as she nudged him awake. They were on the couch, watching TV. Their humans liked to put on a cat show for them to watch. They couldn't understand the language, but they could see the cats. "Get upppp." Lavender coaxed. Thistle's eyes stayed shut. Lavender hissed in annoyance. "Don't make me jump on you.." She warned. Thistle didn't budge.
Lavender wiggled her haunches and leaped onto Thistle, but Thistle's eyes flew open at the last second and scrambled off the couch so that Lavender landed on empty air. Rosemary and her mother let out a purr of amusement. "Okay, okay, I'm awake, let's go outside." Thistle meowed, sighing. As Lavender and Thistle walked toward the cat flap, Rosemary jumped down and followed them.
They eyed her with disgust, but Rosemary kept ignoring them. They walked out the cat flap and into the backyard where they could play. Seeing her siblings busy arguing about what game to play, she raced up to them and pushed Lavender into Thistle. They hissed angrily. "You're it, Lavender!" Lavender whirled around and tapped Thistle, missing by a whisker as Thistle dodged. They began chasing each other playfully around the yard as Rosemary climbed a tree.
Rosemary watched her sibling finally tag Thistle and hurriedly shouted, "No tag-backs!" Thistle glared at her, then looked around the yard, searching for Rosemary, and she backed into the leaves. Lavender finally spotted movement in the tree, and shouted, "In there!" Thistle looked up, finally noticing her, and sprinted toward her, climbing the tree. She squealed in excitement and jumped to a lower branch just as Thistle reached the treetop. She jumped down and sprinted toward the cat flap.
As she crashed through the flap, she smelled something burning in the house. Fire! Fire was all over the house and she saw her mother bounding toward her, her eyes full of panic. The humans were nowhere to be found. She sprinted back out the cat flap with her mother on her tail. Her siblings were still outside, sniffing the air with confused expressions. "Fire!" Her mother shrieked. Her sibling's eyes widened in far and they bounded to catch up to Rosemary and her mother. Rosemary only hoped they could make it.
