It was a relief. No more dark dreams led by Nightmare could haunt her dreams, since she had the red glimmering stone. It was sunrise. Rosemary yawned, and opened her tired eyes. She hadn't had much sleep the night before, since she had stolen the stone. I'll call it a dream-vistitor. She thought. Blaze and Snowflake were awaking next to her, and she quickly hid the stone behind her. "I'll go hunting then." Blaze meowed, yawning. "I'll go to!" Snowflake mewed. They padded out of the den. Finally! She thought. She turned around, grabbed the stone, and set it down beside her. She started digging a hole.
Once it was deep enough, she dropped the stone in, and kicked the dirt back in, patting it flat. I can't tell Blaze or Snowflake. She thought. They'll freak out! She heard pawsteps and quickly changed into a stretching position just as Blaze and Snowflake walked in, a fat mouse in Snowflake's small jaws, her eyes shining proudly. "Wow, that was quick!" She meowed. Blaze purred, "This mouse was dumb enough to eat an acorn right outiside camp!" He meowed. Snowflake set the mouse down, and they shared it.
The flavors were just like her first bite of forest prey, they had the flavors of the forest, and very very sweet, despite the blood. They finished the mouse in a very short time, before they heard more pawsteps, along with a familiar scent, Nightmare. "Stay quiet!" She hissed quietly to Blaze and Snowflake, "Don't move." Nightmare was obiously trying to find her, it was a miracle he din't find her mate and kit earlier. The fear and Blaze's and Snowflake's eyes make her shiver.
"I know you're there." She heard Nightmare growl. "Don't try to hide." She heard him stalk around the camp for a while longer before giving up and angrily walking away. "Who was that?" Blaze asked. "He sounded like he knew you." Rosemary sighed and told them the whole story. "Mother, he wants it back!" Snowflake meowed, "We need a better hiding spot than this." Rosemary shook her head, "Not yet, my snowflake, this will do for now. We do need a better spot to put it in, and we will find one, someday. And hopefully soon."
Hi guys! The picture above is their den and the entrance is facing the walls of the camp, not the camp entrance, so when Nightmare came, it looked like a normal tree stump. I hope you guys are enjoying the book so far!
