Rosemary jumped to her paws. "You know the rules, right?" She quickly asked Snowflake. Snowflake nodded, "Stay cautious, stay quiet, stay safe." Rosemary nodded in approval and she raced after Blaze. They sprinted to his camp, and found Stream, in a pool of blood. Stream was wailing for dear life. I need to close her wound! What should I use? She thought quickly. Cobweb! She snatched a piece of cobweb hanging near them and stuck it onto Stream's wound. There was a huge cut on her belly. "Stream, you'll be okay! I won't let you die!" Blaze insisted.
Stream kept wailing, and blood kept pouring out of her wound, ruining the cobweb. Suddenly, Stream fell still, and her body fell limp. "NO!!" Blaze wailed. "I'm so sorry, Blaze." Rosemary murmured. "A rogue got her! I'm gonna kill that rogue the next time I see it!" Blaze growled. She calmed Blaze down with soothing words and they buried her at the edge of the camp. "Thank you, Rosemary." Blaze whispered. Rosemary nodded. "Do you mind if I call you Rose?" Blaze suddenly asked.
Rosemary smiled and nodded again. She dipped her head in farewell and padded back to her own den. Inside, she could barely make out Snowflake's ice-white fur as Snowflake burrowed into their moss bed. Snowflake poked her head out of the burrow. "There you are!" Snowflake chirped. "What happened?" Rosemary's smile faded. "Stream died." She explained sadly. Snowflake hung her head sadly, but then her ears perked up, "If you have kits with Blaze-" She started. Rosemary cut her off, "Which I won't."
Snowflake rolled her eyes, "If you do have kits, you should name them after Stream. Brook for a she-cat, and Creek for a tom." Snowflake explained. Rosemary knew that Snowflake's idea was pretty creative. "I'll do it." She promised.
Five days after Stream's death...
"Snowflake!" Rosemary yowled. "Don't go so far!" Snowflake turned her head around, "But mother, today you said we could explore!" Snowflake complained. "Yes, I did, but don't bump into another fox! And stick to the rules!" She warned. Snowflake rolled her eyes, "Oh, the rules: stay cautious, stay quiet, stay safe. Like I haven't memorized it! Snowflake meowed. Rosemary sighed, "Just stay close to me." She meowed. They wandered around until Rosemary saw a finch. "Stay down and don't move or make a sound." She whispered to Snowflake.
She crouched and swiftly and quietly padded forward. The finch had no idea she was there! She pounced on the finch and killed it with a slash of her claws. She trotted back to her kit with the prey in her jaws and let her eat. She then heard movement in the bushes and braced herself for an ambush. Luckily, Blaze had tought her many battle moves. But what walked out was Blaze, not a rogue. "Hello Blaze." Rosemary meowed, dipping her head.
Blaze purred, "How are you, Rose?" He asked. Snowflake looked at her with teasing eyes, He even gave you a sweet nickname!, Snowflake mouthed. Rosemary nugded her sternly and turned back to Blaze, "Fine. The prey is running and Snowflake and I are well fed." She mewed, watching Snowflake finish eating her finch. "Rose, could we talk in private?" He suddenly asked. She hesitated, glancing at Snowflake, but Snowflake was already hiding in the ferns, nodding, telling Rosemary she'd be safe. "Alright." Rosemary meowed.
They padded to a sandy clearing and Blaze sat down in front of her, his sharp green eyes looking at her sky-blue ones. "Listen," Blaze meowed, looking shy and shifting his paws, "You are a really good friend to me, but maybe we can be more. You were the only one to help me when Stream was hurt, you never back down, and you always cheer me up. We hunt together, talk together, really, we can do more than that. Rose, will you be my..."
OMG! He is finally gonna say it! WILL SHE APPROVE?? Left you on a cliffhanger there, too! 😂😂
