I stand inside grinning up at JJ as he steers Heyward's boat. The rest of the group sits on the bow too distracted by their conversations to notice me wrap my arms around Jays waist from behind. I kiss the side of his neck, his hair tickling my nose.
"So, Pope knows about us, huh?" He laughs, leaning into my hold. I nod backing up from him, not wanting to get caught by our friends.
"Yeah, but I'm kind of glad someone knows. It makes this feel real." His eyebrows raise at my words. "You know what I mean, it feels like a real relationship."
"Wow!" He steps back dramatically. "Relationship? Don't suffocate me." I smack him in the back of the head making him laugh. "I'm kidding. Sammy." He grabs my waist, pulling me in and trapping me between him and the steering wheel. "Sam, I have been head over heels in love with you since we were like ten. This is a real relationship. We may have to hide it for a little while but that doesn't mean I love you any less."
Jay turns his head to check no one is looking before leaning in to leave a soft, but firm kiss on my lips. Letting my hand slip under his T-shirt to run my hand over the small of his toned back. I quickly step away from his warmth letting out a loud gasp.
"Oh my god, JJ are you asking me to be your girlfriend?" Staring up at him with mocking shock.
"Shut up." He smacks the back of my head, before turning back to steering the boat. We finally arrive to the spot, the boat coming to a stop. I make my way onto the back, standing with my brother.
"Alright, JJ. Pin it here." John B calls out as Pope and Kie join us.
"Roger that, x marks the spot." Jay mumbles, making the boat come to a complete stop. Pope and John B pull out the drone getting it ready to put into the water.
"Ladies and gentlemen, to going full kook." JB smiles proudly, making me grin. He lowers it into the water as we watch closely. We all instantly get to work, Kie and I controlling the tether, as Pope steers the camera and John B shouts out directions to JJ. "Alright JJ, we're right over it. Ten seconds northwest."
Kie and I continue to lower the tether into the water below, which is surprisingly hard to keep steady. The waves and current push the drone in all directions making it extremely difficult. We see the first red dot on the rope, marking the one-hundred-foot point.
"We're at one hundred feet." I shout out as Kie writes down a chalk tally on wood of the boat.
"And to quote the hobbit, down, down, to goblin town. Down, down you go my lad." Pope quotes making me chuckle.
"You don't get laid often, do you?" I ask making him scoff loudly.
"Two hundred feet!" Kie calls out.
Ten minutes go by, and we are still hard at work trying to get the drone to the bottom. I look up to see dark clouds coming in and the sound of distant thunder roaring loudly. The waves start to rock the boat violently making it harder to control the tether. I let out a curse when I lose my footing and slam into the side of the boat. John B jumping up to grab my arm, stopping me from falling overboard.
"Are you okay?" He asks, backing up when I am stood steady.
"Yeah, just bruised the shit out of my hip." I hiss in pain, turning to continue helping with the tether.
"JJ, hold it steady!" My brother calls out as the blonde grunts, fighting the strong current.
"Nine hundred feet." Kies voice cuts through the sound of the harsh wind and crashing waves.
"Nine-twenty." I call out. The boat rocks again making Kie almost slip, I grab her arm helping her find her footing. "We're going to turtle in the storm, Jay!"
"Crank it north by northwest, for ten seconds." John B shouts another order at JJ.
The drone begins to fight against the waves as we struggle to keep a hold of it. Both of us use all our might to not lose the stolen drone in the fucking ocean. My hands start to burn from the friction of the rope.
"Guys, we're losing it." Kie tells the boys as I let out a groan, my arms aching from fighting with it. "You okay, Sam?"
"Yeah, are you good?" She simply nods in reply, focusing back on the task.
"Half speed steady steering, JJ." The thunder and winds drains out the sound of my brothers voice. "What have you got, Pope? Come on, what do you see?" The tide begins to calm down, so I let Kie take the lead. I join the two boys looking down at the footage we are capturing.
"Nothing, a whole lot of nothing." Pope sighs in annoyance as nothing but empty water is seen on the camera.
"We should be right above it." John B runs his hand harshly through his hair. I wrap my arm around his back trying to comfort him as best I can. This will crush him if we don't find anything. The bottom of the sea floor shows up on the screen making my brother tense up beside me. There's nothing there. "You should be seeing something, man."
All our jaws drop when we see the sunken boat pop up on the device. A huge smile covers my brothers face making a warmth spread in my heart. JJ shouts out, asking if we can see anything, but I cannot find the words to reply.
"It's the Royal Merchant." John B says breathlessly making the group all shout with excitement.
Our excitement doesn't last long as Pope guides the drone through the Merchant, but nothing shows up or alerts the metal detectors. He stays persistent doing multiple laps before finally giving up. I groan with frustration, digging harshly through my pockets to find the pack of cigarettes I stole from JJ a week ago. Jay flicks on his lighter, lighting the tip of my cigarette.
"It's not there, just pull the drone up." My brother lets out a defeated sigh. Letting out a breath of smoke, I roll my eyes at the whole situation. I almost believed it was going to be there.
"We can recharge the battery, we can go back down." Pope insists not wanting to let the grieving boy down.
"We've done it three times, there's nothing there." Jay argues making the rest of the group mad. Kie yells at him making me laugh quietly at her ridiculous behavior. We were looking for fucking gold in a treasure hunt, it wasn't exactly a sure thing.
"If it was there, it would have been found on the metal detector, okay? Somebody beat us to it." John B gets Kie and Pope to shut up. This is the first time in months the man has been rational.
"Or it was never there." Jay mumbles making me nod with agreement.
The rest of the boat trip everyone stays quiet and keeps to themselves, which is the opposite of what I need. When we get back to shore, I'll have to deal with the craziness that is my home life, which sucks because I count on the groups conversations to distract myself.
It is a very small chapter today, sorry x
I still hope you enjoyed, and I am already working on the next chapter. Please vote and comment what you think so far, love you all <3
