—— Seori
The past few days had been an emotional rollercoaster. Jungwon hadn't texted or called, and neither had I. It was like we were playing a silent game of who would break first. I wasn't sure if he even cared anymore. The whole situation felt like a dark cloud hanging over my head, making it hard to focus on anything else.
It was Saturday afternoon, and I was lying on my bed, staring at the ceiling, when my phone buzzed. I almost didn't check it, but curiosity got the better of me. I grabbed it, half expecting it to be Jiyeon with another one of her taunting messages. Instead, it was a text from Jungwon.
Hey. How are you?
My heart skipped a beat. It was a simple message, but it felt like a lifeline. I stared at the screen, unsure how to respond. Should I ignore it? Should I tell him everything that had been weighing on my mind? Before I could decide, another message popped up.
I miss you.
A lump formed in my throat. I missed him too, more than I could put into words. But I was also scared. Scared of being hurt again, scared of the unresolved mess between us. I was still debating whether to reply when Yeji's name flashed on my screen.
Hey, wanna hang out? I could really use some girl time.
I sighed, feeling a pang of guilt. I had been avoiding everyone, including Yeji, who had always been there for me. Maybe spending some time with her would help clear my head. I quickly typed out a response.
Sure, where do you want to meet?
I'll come pick you up in 15 minutes. Be ready!
I got up and changed into something casual but nice, trying to shake off the melancholy that had settled over me. As promised, Yeji arrived right on time, and I climbed into her car, grateful for the distraction.
"Hey," she greeted me with a warm smile. "How have you been?"
I shrugged. "Okay, I guess."
She gave me a knowing look but didn't press further. "I've got a surprise for you. I think you'll like it."
"A surprise?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "What kind of surprise?"
"You'll see," she said mysteriously, refusing to give me any more details.
We drove for a while, chatting about random things, and slowly, I began to relax. It felt good to talk about normal stuff, to laugh and forget about my problems, even if just for a little while.
When we pulled up to a familiar field, my heart skipped a beat. This was the place where Jungwon and I had our first kiss, where we had spent countless nights claiming stars and sharing dreams.
"Yeji, why are we here?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly.
She gave me a reassuring smile. "Just trust me, okay? Come on."
Reluctantly, I got out of the car and followed her. As we walked closer, I noticed a blanket spread out on the grass, surrounded by pillows, food, and drinks. It looked almost magical, like something out of a romantic movie.
And then I saw him. Jungwon was standing there, looking as nervous as I felt. My heart pounded in my chest, and I felt a mix of emotions—fear, hope, longing.
"Seori," he said softly, stepping forward. "Can we talk?"
I glanced at Yeji, who gave me an encouraging nod before walking back to the car, leaving us alone.
