Chapter 27: Friends

Shao Yao came over early in the morning again. Hua Zhi was slowly eating her congee in bed. These past few days, she had only been drinking congee and soup, as the thought of the food Fu Dong used to make for her made her mouth water.

Upon receiving the news of Shao Yao's arrival, Hua Zhi eagerly set her bowl aside, her heart filled with anticipation. She yearned to meet this young woman who had captured her attention. Over the years, she had encountered countless women who conformed to societal expectations.

Her uniqueness, her deviation from the norm, piqued Hua Zhi's curiosity. She was eager to discover what made Shao Yao so different.

In an era where men were treated as the sky, there were very few women who could step out of the inner courtyard and carve out their own space.

Shao Yao still wore her white veil hat and carried a medicine box on her back. She walked slowly to Hua Zhi's bedside and took off her veil hat, meeting Hua Zhi's gaze directly.

It was indeed a face marred by a sharp weapon, but Hua Zhi did not even blink. She had seen far more gruesome sights than this, with faces covered in blood like vengeful spirits. Compared to those, the woman now sitting before her, with the scent of medicine surrounding her and clear eyes, seemed like she was sitting on a lotus pedestal.

After looking at her for a while, Shao Yao found her quite pleasing to the eye. Rarely showing a smile, she took out a medicine cushion from her bag and placed it on the edge of the bed, motioning for Hua Zhi to put her hand on it.

"You have a good foundation and are recovering well."

"Thanks to your medicine."

"Of course, my medicine is invaluable."

Shao Yao's' words naturally made Hua Zhi chuckle, "It seems like I owe you quite a bit, but the Huas are now so poor that we can’t even make ends meet for now."

"You don't need to pay for mine." Anyone who dared to charge for the medicine the Shizi promised to give would be too scared, so Shao Yao took out six small and large porcelain bottles from her medicine box in a row, pointing to the largest, "For the scars."

Bao Xia was overjoyed and sincerely thanked her with a bow, "This servant thanks Miss Shao Yao."

Shao Yao nodded, pointing to the medium-sized bottle, "For application."

Then she pointed to the smallest bottle, "Take one pill a day."

Hua Zhi sat up and bent forward slightly in a salute, "I will always remember this great kindness, Miss Shao Yao."

"It's my duty." Shao Yao looked at her askance, "Do you want to know who it is from?"

"Can you tell me?"

Although the Shizi did not say she couldn't tell, he also didn't say she had to tell. So it was better not to say, Shao Yao shook her head, "I will go back and ask first."

Hua Zhi nodded in agreement, she didn't want to know who the person was. Just from the demeanor last night, it was clear that they were not ordinary people, and there were also inconvenient aspects to their identity, otherwise they wouldn't have covered their face with a black cloth. The Hua family now needed to stay quiet and stable, and not stir up any more trouble.

Moreover, they were obviously there because of the villain from last night. It didn't seem like a small favor, but she still had to express her gratitude.

"Do you always stay here?"

"For now, I need to recover before I can go back."

"If I come here every day, will you find it annoying?"
