Chapter 119 Three Matters
Suddenly, Hua Zhi felt as light as a swallow, with no aches or pains, almost floating towards the family clan school.
As she got closer, the voices became clearer, distinctly more than one group of children's voices, two groups.
One group was reciting the Analects, the other group was reciting the Spring and Autumn Annals.
The classroom of the eldest students was without a teacher, but the movements and voices were all in unison. Bai Lin standing on the platform leading the small class in reciting the Analects.
In her mind, Hua Zhi felt like fireworks were going off, making the world colorful and vibrant. She thought, with such children, how could the Hua family not prosper!
With these children around, no amount of darkness could overshadow the sky above the Hua family!
After listening for some time, Hua Zhi arrived late. Everyone was already waiting for her, and the older relatives, such as the two eldest grand-concubines, had displeased expressions.
Wu shi understood her niece very well. If she hadn't been delayed by something, she wouldn't have done something that would invite gossip. She spoke before anyone else could, smiling and joking, "You called us here but you're the last one to arrive. Where were you?”
“I went to the family clan school.” Hua Zhi sat calmly in the main seat. “All the children went to the family clan school, not a single one was absent.”
Qi shi was surprised, “Didn't you order the young master to go? My Ran'er went early in the morning.”
“They've been busy lately, and even though I wanted them to make progress, I wouldn't deny them rest. But I know that striving for progress is a good thing, and there's no reason to stop them. I have sent a letter to Mr. Mu, and the family clan school will resume classes tomorrow.”
Although she felt sorry for the children, none of the women in the room objected. For generations, the Hua family had been scholars, and it was a consensus among all the women in the Hua family that the Hua children must study.
Hua Zhi got back to the main point, “I've called everyone here to discuss a few things. The first thing, Liu Xiang, show everyone.”
Liu Xiang accepted the book from the young lady and passed it to the nearest eldest aunt. The two aunts examined it together and passed it down.
Hua Zhi remained silent, calmly sipping her tea as she waited for everyone to finish.
Wu shi handed it to the younger generation, Hua Xin. She lowered her head to hide the tears in her eyes. Her maternal family had only given one hundred taels!
"The gift money totals five thousand nine hundred and fifty taels, and the funeral expenses for grandmother amounted to about two thousand six hundred taels. The remaining silver will be added to the public account, which is currently managed by Nian Qiu."
Zhu shi moved her mouth, remembering her mother and brother's instructions and kept quiet. She listened to what Hua Zhi had to say.
"Shouldn't we hire an accountant?” Xia shi tentatively asked.
"Nian Qiu was trained by me personally. She knows everything that an accountant should know. Anything she doesn't know, an accountant won't know either. The public account is open for all of you to check at any time. I don't trust outside accountants. Don't forget that after the incident at the Hua family, all the accountants left, and the current accounts are not suitable for outsiders to know about.”
