Chapter 74: Traveling Together (Part 1)

On the main road, Hua Zhi had no reason to stop others from walking, especially since it was arranged by Shao Yao. She reluctantly accepted.

"In that case, Mr. Lu, please."

Gu Yanxi's eyes lit up, even though he had traveled all over the Daqing Dynasty, he still felt a joyful sensation from embarking on this journey.

Glancing back at the towering city wall, Hua Zhi looked ahead at the boundless sky. A sense of pride swelled in her heart. What was just two thousand miles to her?

It was nothing!

With a flick of the reins, Hua Zhi squeezed the horse's belly, her body slightly lowering, "Let's go!"

Gu Yanxi patted the horse's back and the black steed, which had been eagerly waiting, rose on its hind legs with a long neigh. It clattered along, catching up with Hua Zhi. As they were about to overtake her, Gu Yanxi pulled the reins, riding alongside Hua Zhi. Shao Yao, who was supposed to travel with Hua Zhi, was squeezed to the back.

Taking advantage of wearing a veil that concealed her identity, Shao Yao rolled her eyes at Gu Yanxi.

Before setting out, Hua Zhi did her homework, bringing along a map. During the noon break, she calculated the distance using the map.

Shao Yao held the warm cake in her hand and was about to walk over to give it to Hua Zhi. Suddenly, the cake disappeared from her hand, and she watched helplessly as Gu Yanxi took the cake and headed towards Hua Zhi.

Shao Yao felt angry. Was Gu Yanxi trying to snatch her friend?!

Gu Yanxi glanced back at her, "Bake a few more."

Shao Yao deflated. Pouting, she squatted down to pick up the cakes and continued baking. She thought to herself, "How annoying, why did Gu Yanxi have to come along?!"

Sitting down beside Hua Zhi, Gu Yanxi handed her a cake with jerky in it, "Eat while it's hot."

"Thank you." Hua Zhi folded the map and set it aside, taking the cake and eating.

Gu Yanxi opened the map and saw the annotations on the official road from the capital to the northern regions. He was familiar with this road and quickly understood it. Although he already knew that Hua Zhi was not an impulsive person, seeing these annotations made him realize how thoughtful she was.

"Are we planning to reach this inn tonight?"

Hua Zhi leaned over to look, nodded, and then swallowed the cake before replying, "Yes, we need to reach there before sunset. I calculated that with our morning speed, we should have no problem."

"Indeed, it shouldn't be a problem."

Hua Zhi's curiosity was piqued, "Has Mr. Lu been to this place before?"

"I've been there many times, very familiar with it." Gu Yanxi pointed to another location, "This inn has been abandoned and relocated to this place. If we want to reach there earlier, we'll have to depart earlier."

Hua Zhi quickly looked over, "Thank goodness for Mr. Lu's reminder. Otherwise, we might have to travel at night. This map was passed down to me from my grandfather when I was young. I've been worried about any changes over the years, and it seems my concerns were justified."

Gu Yanxi has a complete set of maps, a total of eight, and this one in front of Hua Zhi is the route from the capital to the northern region. With Hua Zhi's meticulous nature, he's afraid she already had plans to head to the north at that time.
