Chapter 95: Have You Considered the Consequences?

It wasn't until curfew was approaching that Hua Zhi emerged from the house. Gu Yanxi and Shao Yao were waiting by the door, and when she saw Hua Zhi, Shao Yao looked like wanted to run over but was quickly restrained by Gu Yanxi.

Hua Zhi turned back to give a respectful bow before heading towards the door. She had already said everything that needed to be said, and she would never speak of the things that couldn't be said.

Hua Pingyang accompanied her to the inn as usual, and Hua Baili followed behind until he stopped once they bid farewell to the visitors. At twelve years old, having read many books and understood many truths, he knew that warmth didn't come just from being bathed in sunlight. There were some people who, just by catching a glimpse of them, could warm your heart.

As Hua Zhi stepped out the door, she suddenly turned back. Standing on the steps, she appeared taller due to the height difference with Hua Baili standing above her.

Hua Baili quickly descended two steps to allow his eldest sister to meet his gaze.

"Do you have a letter for your mother that you want me to bring?"

Hua Baili's eyes lit up. He indeed had a letter ready, but he didn't dare to speak. He knew that his eldest sister didn't care for his mother, as children of the main wife probably wouldn't have affection for siblings born to concubines.

"You can write it tonight and bring it to the inn early tomorrow morning. Also, inform Bai Xiang and you can bring something if you like, but not too heavy as there's probably already a lot."

Hua Baili nodded repeatedly, but he didn't bring out the letter he had already written. This way, he would have a reason to visit his eldest sister tomorrow morning.

"Take care of yourself, take care of Father."

"I will, eldest sister."

Hua Zhi glanced at the people who hadn't dispersed in the yard and then turned around. With a flick of her cloak, she moved with a swift and determined stride, appearing to be a powerless woman but exuding an unstoppable force.

Gu Yanxi's eyes flickered a few times. Even though he knew that Hua Pingyang was observing him, he didn't avert his gaze. He had no intention of hiding his feelings. Throughout, his resistance wasn't about others but was directed at Hua Zhi herself.

In the evening, as Hua Zhi packed her things, she spoke to Shao Yao who was sitting beside her, "Grandmother's illness must be kept secret. You must run errands a few more times. If grandfather asks you anything, do not answer, just say you don't know, especially about grandmother's condition. It must not be leaked to grandfather."

Shao Yao nodded weakly.

"It's freezing here, so don't stay too long. Once you've gathered the medicine, hurry back. Don't be stubborn in dealing with situations, as this place is not like the capital."

Shao Yao nodded.

"If you have time, take care of my father and my younger brother's health." Hua Zhi made a final tie, then she pulled Shao Yao to sit on the bed. "I'm worried they might get sick from the cold weather here; it's really too cold."

"Huahua, you underestimate them too much. The master said humans are the most adaptable species in the world, capable of adapting to any environment they encounter."

Yes, many powerful species have disappeared in the long river of history, but the small human race has multiplied from generation to generation and will continue to do so into the distant future.
