Chapter 140: The Wind Continues

The child appeared uneasy, with a vigilant look as if ready to take a risk at any moment.

Hua Zhi didn't dwell on what he had been through—it clearly wasn't anything good. However, the current situation couldn't continue. The inside of her carriage was already stained with blood, the cushions soaked through with bloodstains.

"Do you have someone you need to meet up with?" Hua Zhi asked.

The child nodded, then shook his head.

Hua Zhi nodded in understanding and didn't press further. "Will there be any trouble if you come with me now?"

The child shook his head. "No one saw me."

"Alright then, Caocao, check to see if he has any critical injuries. If not, go clean up the aftermath. We need to make sure all traces are left in this tavern." The clientele of the Yunlai Tavern were either wealthy or noble. Leaving evidence here would give them pause and deter any actions against her.

Shao Yao nodded and went to check the child's condition by taking his pulse. Afterward, she put on her hood and got out of the carriage, signaling for Ying Chun to follow her inside.

Ying Chun, upon seeing the situation inside, covered her mouth in shock and instinctively moved to protect her mistress. Hua Zhi stopped her, saying, "It's okay, sit down."

The carriage slowly departed, with Zhu Ziwen and Shao Yao not having a close relationship. Seeing her come out of the carriage, they exchanged nods before riding along.

Wu Bi led his horse over, sniffed the air and furrowed his brow. "The smell of blood. Where is it coming from?"

Shao Yao scanned the area and whispered, "There's a child hidden in the carriage, not more than ten years old. From the quality of the clothes and demeanor, it's clear they are not from an ordinary family. Investigate which family in the capital recently lost a child, and if no one speaks up..."

Shao Yao's eyes turned icy. "Then there's something fishy going on. Dig deep."

"Understood. I'll go now. When you get back, inform Wang Rong not to leave the Hua residence these next few days."

"Got it." The two split up, with Shao Yao heading towards an alley near the back courtyard of the Yunlai Tavern. She looked around and then slipped into the yard, where the carriages were parked. The child should have been hiding here.

In the corner of the stable, Shao Yao found bloodstains. Following the trail of blood, she discovered a crevice stained with dark marks on the ground and walls—the color of aged bloodstains. This indicated that the child had been there for at least a day.

Shao Yao held her head, feeling like it was about to split open with pain. In her mind, she saw flashes of blood and fire—everything unfamiliar yet strangely familiar.

This is probably her forgotten past, something she doesn't want to remember at all, not one bit!

Sweat beads dotted Shao Yao's forehead, her lips pale as snow. She thought she needed to brew a potion that would help her forget even more thoroughly.

Once her headache eased slightly, she used her inner energy to strike several places on the outer wall. The wall slowly collapsed from the bottom, with the debris particularly shattering. After completely filling the space and ensuring no traces were left, Shao Yao quietly left, just like she had arrived.

Shortly after, another group of people arrived in the courtyard. They meticulously searched every nook and cranny before shaking their heads in unison and leaving.
