Chapter 82: Reunion with Loved Ones (Part 1)

As they walked, Hua Zhi asked questions all the way, and Chen Shan did his best to answer them in detail. At the moment he saw the eldest young lady, he knew that she would be their support.

"Chen Shan, you arrived a bit late today. Your master has been waiting for a while. Hua Da, Chen Shan is here."

Hua Pingyu came out from the gate and his eyes widened in astonishment when he saw the person next to Chen Shan.

This person was... this person was...

Hua Zhi had always thought that her bond with her father was not deep, just a connection of blood ties, but now she deeply felt the innate closeness in her bloodline.

She ran forward quickly, took a few steps, and then knelt down, "Father..."

Hua Pingyu quickly helped her up, his mouth moved a few times, but couldn't say anything. His daughter's sudden arrival caught him off guard.

Someone next to him looked surprised and said, "Hua Da, is this your son? Wait, aren't all children over ten years old exiled in your family? This is deceiving the emperor!"

Hua Pingyu was unwilling to bear the stigma of deceiving the emperor and said coldly, "Open your eyes and see clearly, this is my eldest daughter, the women of the Hua family have not been sentenced to exile!"

This statement made everyone laugh, Hua's daughter running from the capital to Yingshan Pass?

Who are you trying to deceive?

"Hua Da, you're really good at making up stories, let's see if the general will believe you."

Hua Zhi turned around and slowly pulled down her hood, revealing her delicate features. The cold look in her eyes swept over everyone, "Do you all think that the women of the Hua family are easy to bully?"

Although her tone was cold, everyone was not deaf, they could tell that this was definitely a female voice, and upon closer inspection of her appearance, there was no way to conceal the woman's inherent charm even if she dressed as a young man!

A girl from the capital really ran all the way to Yingshan Pass!?

No one was laughing now, they were all shocked, their eyes almost bulging out of their sockets!

Hua Pingyu's face showed a hint of fatherly pride, "Wait here for a moment, I will go report to the superiors."

Hua Zhi obediently agreed, not questioning whether her father would be able to get permission, her father may have the air of a scholar, but after many years in office, he knew how to handle such matters.

"Chen Shan, take care of Zhi'er."

"Yes."

Hua Pingyu hurriedly turned back, Hua Zhi put on her hood again and did not look at the increasing crowd.

Gu Yanxi frowned, leading Lin Ying to stand in front, blocking the gaze of the crowd.

Shao Yao came to Hua Zhi's side, holding her arm and complaining, "These people are so annoying."

Holding her hand, Hua Zhi did not respond, she regarded them as insignificant, and would not be affected by them.

Soon there was movement from the gate, Hua Zhi looked over and saw her father's helpless but proud look in his eyes.

Hua Pingyu didn't like his daughter being surrounded like this, but he was also happy that she had come. He didn't know how to react at that moment.

Hua Zhi walked out from behind the horse, bowed to the people inside, she knew these people were her father's future colleagues, perhaps they were not even considered officials, but if they were to cause trouble for her father, he would not have peace either. It's always better to show too much respect than too little.

The noise instantly turned into silence, seeing something with your own eyes was more shocking than hearing about it. Everyone had loved ones, some had visitors, but it was the first time they had seen a young lady travel so far to visit.

Many people originally felt uncomfortable because of envy or jealousy, but now they felt a sense of awe. One person patted Hua Da on the shoulder and said, "It's not easy to come all this way, I'll let you rest this afternoon."

Hua Pingyu originally only asked for an hour's leave, and upon hearing the news, he was overjoyed and turned to give a deep bow.

Hua Zhi also heard the news and gave another respectful gesture to the man speaking, who then nodded in response, leaving with hands behind his back. A daughter raised by the Hua family, her courage was just as admirable as any son's!

Hua Pingyu's previous gloom disappeared as he proudly led his daughter towards where his father was. Along the way, he kept asking about the situation at home, realizing more and more how much he had neglected his daughter.

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the woman with the veil walking beside his daughter, along with another man who seemed extraordinary. Although he was curious about their identities, he did not inquire further. After all that had happened, he now had unprecedented trust in his daughter.

In the small room, Hua Yizheng coughed lightly but kept his hand steady as he held the pen, his handwriting remained untainted.

As the room darkened, he looked up to see his youngest son entering with a lunchbox. He set down the pen and walked to the side to wash his hands.

There was a separate room for doing official business, the fire may not be as strong as before in the Hua family, but it was still sufficient. The food and clothing were passable, the days of exile were better than expected, but achieving this came at a great cost. Most of the money that Zhi'er had prepared had already been spent, but even so, Hua Yi did not stop his youngest son from doing these things.

He had to survive and return home, return to his old wife. They were suffering, the women in the capital lived in constant fear, it was not easy.

"How are they doing?"

Knowing who his father was referring to, Hua Pingyang did not hide anything, "They are still unconscious, the youngest one still has a fever."

Hua Yizheng remained silent for a moment, sighed, "Try to think of a solution, our Hua family cannot afford to lose members."

"Yes, I understand." Hua Pingyang smiled in response, hiding the bitterness in his heart. The money in his hand was running low, but there were too many expenses, one after another, and he had to keep going.

Both of them were once pampered and cherished, now several of them fell ill as soon as November came around, the weather getting colder each day. How would they survive this harsh winter?

The father and son sat in silence, feeling a loss of appetite.

When there was a commotion outside the door, Hua Pingyang put down his bowl and stood up to take a look. What he saw almost made his eyes pop out of their sockets!

"Dad, Dad, come quickly..."

Hua Yizheng was shocked, he knew how capable his youngest son was, what could have made him so flustered...

Hua Yizheng hastily put down his bowl and hurried over, only to understand why his son was in such a state when he saw the person standing outside. He never expected his granddaughter, who should be overseeing matters in the capital, to appear here!

Looking at her aged grandfather, although still dressed appropriately but clearly aged, Hua Zhi knelt down with tears in her eyes, "Granddaughter pays respects to grandfather on behalf of the Hua family."

Even Hua Yizheng, who had experienced countless storms, felt his eyes welling up and his nose tingling. His beard trembled as he hoarsely helped her up, "Quickly, quickly get up."

People of all ages in the various rooms emerged, silently watching the scene unfold. Those who were still chewing on their food paused, cheeks bulging in a slightly comical manner, but no one dared to laugh at such a moment.
