Chapter 64: Fight for Life

As they waited, night fell.

Qi Shi and Xia Shi had already found excuses to go back early, and even Zhu Shi had been persuaded by Hua Zhi to go back, leaving only her and Shao Yao waiting outside. During this time, Shao Yao went inside two more times.

Listening to the muffled moans from behind the door, Shao Yao gripped Hua Zhi's arm tighter.

Hua Zhi glanced at her, "Are you scared?"

"Not scared." Shao Yao shook her head, indeed not scared. She had seen everything while following the Shizi. "Just hearing her like that makes my belly ache too."

Hua Zhi chuckled and looked up at the night sky decorated with twinkling stars. Despite the commotion during the day, the sky had cleared up after the fierce storm. Looking at the night sky, it was evident that the weather would be good again tomorrow.

Calculating the time, it had been nearly ten hours. The ancestors of the Hua family, if they were watching, needed to ensure the safe delivery of the child. The Hua family desperately needed the arrival of a new life.

Bowls of blood and hot water were brought in and taken in, and after another hour, Wu Shi's loud cry was followed by the sound of a baby's cries.

"She's given birth!"

Soon after, Lin Mama came out carrying the swaddled baby to announce the good news. "Congratulations... Miss, it's a baby boy! What a joyous occasion."

Both the awkwardness in Lin Mama's words and the strangeness that Hua Zhi felt struck her. If it weren't for the troubles in the Hua family, it should have been "Congratulations to Fourth Master," followed by the enthusiastic acceptance of the child by the Fourth Uncle.

But the Fourth Uncle was not here; he couldn't come back.

Hua Zhi looked at the unattractive child and gently took the baby in her arms. "Your father will surely love you very much. We'll wait for him to come back together."

Lin Mama's eyes turned red, she cleared her throat and turned her head to gently pat it, then turned back with a smile on her face. "Indeed, the Fourth Master loves children the most."

Returning the baby to Lin Mama's arms, Hua Zhi nodded slightly.

"Eldest Young Lady! Come quickly." The sharp tone of the midwife made Hua Zhi's heart leap again. She lifted her skirts and ran in, looking at the pool of blood. She didn't need the midwife to say anything; she knew what had happened.

Postpartum hemorrhage!

How could there be postpartum hemorrhage?!

Shao Yao quickly stepped forward, took Wu Shi's wrist for a moment, then opened the medicine box and took out a set of gold needles. She threw her hairpin aside. "Hua Hua, I'm not good at gynecology, but I'll do my best."

Nipping her tongue lightly, Hua Zhi sternly ordered the midwife, "You have enough experience in delivering babies. Find a way to stop the bleeding quickly!"

The midwife pinched her own thigh to calm herself down, then gently massaged her stomach. She had delivered babies for so many years, and there had never been a mother with severe bleeding that she couldn't save. This was the most difficult life-and-death situation for a mother, and now she could only do her best and leave the rest to fate.

Hua Zhi walked to the head of the bed and whispered in Fourth Aunt's ear, "Fourth Aunt, don't close your eyes. Look at me."

Wu Shi struggled to keep her consciousness from sinking, opening her eyes with difficulty. The wetness between her legs and her gradually weakening body made her realize that her situation was dire.
