Chapter 184: Thorny Roses
In front of the memorial hall, a deathly silence fell, even the chanting of scriptures came to an abrupt halt.
The onlookers suddenly remembered that the Hua family's eldes5 daughter was indeed severely ill. Those who had visited her knew that she was bedridden, lacking the strength even to sit up, let alone hang white silk on the high beams.
Could it be that the Song family truly couldn't tolerate Hua Jing anymore?
Without the Hua family, with Mr. Song's abilities, could he climb to a higher rank?
If the Song family had a hand in this, then...
Many people's gazes towards the Song family members became subtle.
"In fact, it was Hua Jing who hung a white silk in front of the Song family's gates, causing great embarrassment." With these words, an elderly man emerged from the crowd, none other than the Song family's patriarch, Song Haoqing. With a very handsome and dignified appearance, even if not young, he still looked good, unlike his son and grandson.
With one hand behind his back, Song Haoqing walked up to Hua Zhi. "Why does the young lady of the Hua family come with such a menacing aura? Those who know her are here to pay respects, while those who don't might mistake it for seeking revenge."
Trying to intimidate her?
Hua Zhi raised her chin slightly, her sharpness evident in her furrowed brows. "A sick person, walked from the locked backyard to the front, evaded the guards, and hanged herself in front of the gate. It seems Hua Jing must have drugged the entire household before taking action, to successfully evade all of the Song family's guards."
Song Haoqing hesitated, about to speak, but heard Hua Zhi continue, "Or perhaps Mr. Song has a more convincing reason?"
"The fact remains, I can't possibly know how she did it."
Hua Zhi nodded approvingly. "Indeed, quite a skillful feat."
This compliment, however, had a double meaning, whether it was praising Hua Jing or the Song family.
Seeing everyone's thoughts being led astray by Hua Zhi, Song Chenghao hurriedly interjected, "Cousin, we truly have no idea how my mother did it..."
"Sui'an was only fourteen years old, yet he protected his mother. Song Chenghao, what about you?"
Hua Zhi's aura escalated, standing without making any movements, exuding a cold and stern demeanor. "You didn't even bother to pretend to be sad, only calculating what benefits Hua Jing's death could bring you. Song Chenghao, your eyes are smiling, haven't you noticed?"
Song Chenghao subconsciously lowered his head, then immediately lifted it again.
Scanning the room filled with people, a hint of sorrow inexplicably arose in Hua Zhi's heart. A person had passed away, yet no one truly mourned her. Was it because Hua Jing had failed as a person, or was human nature just so indifferent?
"Hua Zhi, have you forgotten how you treated Hua Jing before? Now you come, shedding false tears of sympathy..."
"When did I cry?" Hua Zhi interrupted Song Zhengzu, the once proud scholar, now nothing more than an empty shell due to wine and debauchery.
She took out a life plate, causing an uproar among those familiar with the Hua family. "I'm here to return Hua Jing's life plate to her. From now on, Hua Jing, her offspring, and the Song family have no more ties to Hua family. The Hua family and the Song family will each go their separate ways."
