"Why do you have to go, mama?" a small child with brown, curly hair stared up at a dark-blue skinned woman with wavy, light pink hair.
"I have to settle something. That's all..." the woman had tears in her turquoise eyes as she smiled at her child.
The two stood on a boat in the moonlight with a man standing behind the little girl. The man had similar brown hair and glasses.
"It's ok, duckling..." the man was also crying as he rested his hands on his daughter's shoulders.
"Mama will be back..." he sighed as he looked away.
"Connor!" the woman whispered.
"I'm sorry, Cordelia! But... I can't tell her..." the man covered the girl's ears as he spoke.
Cordelia sighed.
"I know..."
"I'm sorry you have to go, love." The man cupped the woman's cheek.
Tears slipped down her eyes.
"No. It's not your fault..."
"Why are you crying mama?" The toddler pulled of the woman's light blue dress.
"Oh nothing, bubbles..."
The toddler smiled as her mother pulled her in a warm embrace.
With a final kiss to her daughter's forehead, the man and girl left the boat and walked to a small cottage adjacent to the sand.
The woman waved as the boat floated off the shore.
"Come on, duckie." The man turned his daughter's view away from the boat as the woman dived into the ocean.
