With the added urgency, the group made it to shore in record time. For a few moments, they all just laid down on the centaur beach until they remembered why they went faster than usual.

"What the fuck happened?!" Exclaimed Lyra.

Celeste began to shuffle over to Val, checking for injuries, "No clue, ask Atlan; he's the oldest,"

"Thank you for that, and only by a year might I remind you!"

"Ha! You're old!" Teased Zeke.

"And you're an asshole." Deadpanned Atlan...

"Both of you simmer down!" the avian interrupted.

The group fell into silence.

"Good" started Celeste "Now let's all act like the adults we are and figure this out,"

"Screw figuring it out! We'll all freeze to death!" Zeke pointed at the setting sun.

Atlan nodded "Let's set up camp in the treeline and keep warm."

With Zeke and Atlan carrying Val, Celeste and Lyra moved the stuff to a clearing in the nearby trees.

After settling down, the crow avian took it upon herself to check up of Val. It didn't take long, however, for Celeste to come to the bandages around the researcher's neck the group had avoided bringing up.

"Sorry, Val. Don't want you freezing on us..." she muttered to herself as she carefully unwrapped the bandages.

Celeste held back a gasp as she drew back.

"Atlan!" she called.

Her husband's distant footsteps came increasingly closer as the avian just stared in shock.

"Is everything ok? Did something happen to Val?" the hornless demon poked his head in the tent.

Celeste just wordlessly pointed to the set of gills lining the side of their friend's neck surrounded by pale scales.

"Uh- Wow- I-...What?"
