I stood up and grabbed my bag, ready to walk away from him. "Hey, Gem!" he shouted, his voice loud enough to grab anyone's attention, though no one was around. I heard him call out again, "Gem."

After a moment, he caught up to me and asked, "Hey, Gem! Do you live around here?" His tone was playful, his smile wide, and his eyes sparkling with warmth.

"Yes," I replied, my voice cold and distant. He seemed to sense my mood and asked, "Are you upset? What happened?" His concern was evident, even though he knew nothing about what was going on in my life.

"What do you want?" I ignored his question and countered with my own, trying to keep my emotions in check.

"Nothing, really! I just saw you sitting here, so I thought-" he began to explain, but I cut him off abruptly. "I have to go" I said, turning away without giving him a chance to finish.

I made my way home, feeling a strange mix of emotions. As I reached the gate, I glanced back and saw him still standing there. His expression had changed, his face now marked with disappointment.

He lingered for a moment before slowly turning to head home, and a wave of guilt washed over me. I couldn't understand why, but I felt bad for shutting him out.

As soon as I entered my house, a strong scent like holy water hit me. I kicked off my shoes and placed my feet on the floor. Instantly, a sharp, jarring sensation surged through me, causing me to scream out loud. I stumbled back, falling outside the door. "I FUCKING HATE HOLY WATER!" I shouted, my voice echoing with frustration.

A moment later, my aunt appeared, her face twisted in anger. "How did you end up on the ground like that?" she demanded, her voice sharp and unforgiving.

"You know I can't stand holy water or anything religious like that! Why did you splash it all over the floor?" I snapped back as I struggled to stand, still feeling the lingering effects of the shock.

Her expression softened, a rare sight that made me pause. "We need to be religious; it keeps the spirits away," she explained, her voice now gentle and almost caring.

This was so unlike her. She had never spoken to me in this way before. My mind raced-something must have happened.

"I can't walk on that floor," I insisted, turning away from her. "Every time I step on it, I feel like I'm getting an electric shock. I can't bear it."

"I'm wiping it up, just wait a moment," she said, her tone almost too accommodating as she headed to the kitchen. The shift in her behavior sent a chill down my spine. Was she trying to kill me? The thought flickered in my mind, unsettling me further.
